No college QB who won the game's award for being the best individual player should be below any QB who did not. Pretty straightforward.

For instance, AJ McCarron over Cam Newton is a complete joke. Brad Smith over Manziel? Not even worthy of discussion.

I'm not gonna make many friends here but AJ is way too high. Those 2 championships can be credited to the defense. AJ has never really had to carry his team the way VY or Tebow or Newton did. AJ never did anything to screw things up but he's never posted video game numbers like some of the others have.

Tebow played with one of the best college defenses ever the year he led them to the NC. They had one bad game - Ole Miss - look at every other game they played though, especially the NC. Lots of NFL-talent on that team. So the same can be said for Tebow that can be said for AJ.

Tebow won a Heisman and scored over 50 TDs in a season. AJ McCarron is a bus driver, the college equivalent of Trent Dilfer.

They redefined best in the last two years. Manziel is not in the same locker room with Tebow, Newton and AJ.

Athlon hates on AU all the time. Don't care to comment on this thread any further than that

Manziel and Cam are on a different level than Tebow, and all are/were so far above AJ any comparison made between them is an insult to the game.

Don't agree at all. Would you put Mark Ingram, a Heisman Trophy winner, above Adrian Peterson? Would you put Pat Sullivan, a Heisman Trophy winner, above Peyton Manning?

Tim Tebow played about 120 snaps his freshman year and threw 33 passes. Forgive me for NGAF.

Rank AJ wherever you want. He'll just have to settle for being the only starting QB to win 2 BCSNCGs unless of course he makes it 3 next season.

As a college football player, yes on both counts. Sullivan and Manning are barely comparable anyway due to the different eras they played in.

Agreed. If Manziel does something similar next year, especially if he wins a national title or another Heisman, the discussion will begin and end with those two for a very long time to come.

Both are playing/played with a lot less overall talent than Tebow. Tebow played with two of the most talented defensive squads in history.

I like this Ag fan. He thinks Ingram was a better college RB than AP. We' re gonna have to make him an honorary gump

This does not equal what you said as quoted below:

Going by the above statement…would you rank Pat Sullivan above Peyton Manning? Please keep in mind that Sullivan's numbers were average for the era he played in.

And nobody can take that from him. If were talking career accomplishments, AJ is certainly in the conversation as most accomplished ever. But the fact is that this is about best player, and realistically there are a number of QBs who could have won a national title with Bama last year. Half the starting SEC QBs would have probably done it. Guys like Manziel, Murray, Bray, Wilson and Shaw along with McCarron probably have them hoisting the trophy.

Despite being a bust in the NFL, JaMarcus is easily in the top 50.
