even with bad QB play and last year's under achieving line, we still took Bama to OT and had them by the balls on an "interception".. that gives m much optimism coming in to tiger stadium next year

I just love how you gumps think because you won a couple of games in the latter part of last decade, that your coach is unbeatable and your team has been blowing ours out.
your posts wreak of arrogance

Josh Williford is looking like a "big" steal from the state of AL. 5.5 3-star but obviously had HUGE potential at 6'7 340 coming out of high school. He showed up to practice last year out of shape, soft and pudgy and after a year in the weight room he's already looking to break into a starting OG role. Could be the next Herman Johnson. I want us to pack on so many pounds on the inside to run the ball again.

Another link about Russell Shepard from Chris Low, ESPN.
LSU's Shepard will focus on receiver
By Chris Low
LSU’s offense has already made one positive step in the right direction, and the start of spring practice is still a day away.
Les Miles confirmed to reporters Wednesday that Russell Shepard would concentrate at receiver this spring, with some spot duty at running back, and that his quarterback days were essentially over.
You might still see Shepard at quarterback in some specialty situations down the road, but it’s clear that the emphasis this spring will be transforming him into a full-time receiver, or better yet, a guy the Tigers can get the ball to in a number of different ways.
He’s too talented of an open-field runner not to get at least 10-plus touches per game, whether you’re throwing it to him short, throwing it to him long, handing it to him on a reverse or simply pitching it to him in the backfield.
Shepard practiced with the quarterbacks last season and never really settled into a role on offense because he got only minimal snaps at quarterback in games.
Don’t look for Shepard to line up much in the Wildcat formation this spring, either. Miles wants Shepard to learn the receiver position, which means that’s where the speedy sophomore will spend his time on the practice field.
Shepard, a multidimensional quarterback in high school, caught just five passes for 34 yards last season as a freshman. He ran the ball 45 times for 277 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per carry.
He's the kind of player who can open up things for a lot of people on offense because of his big-play ability.

I am pretty pumped about this. It tells me Miles knows what the problem is.....
We have been getting beat physically by the likes of Florida, Bama, and Ole Miss.
That must change in order to win the SEC again. Solution: get bigger interior linemen, and make all the players tougher all around.
Seems like Miles has taken step 1: figuring out what the problem is. Hopefully he can successfully carry out step 2: implementing the solution.

I'd do a tough Spring and a relatively easier Fall. That's what Saban used to do here.
I remember early on in Miles career, he always had tough Fall practices and we would end up with some injuries going into the year. Not smart.

So Miles it taking his most explosive home run threat at running back and putting him at reciever full time. Makes sense to me!

I think he was referring to this - "Shepard, a multidimensional quarterback in high school, caught just five passes for 34 yards last season as a freshman. He ran the ball 45 times for 277 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per carry."
Would Shepard not be better at running back? He certainly did better at that position than receiver.

I've said all along that Shepard needs to be used as a wild card, a RB/QB. I mean he's obviously capabale of throwing the ball, and he's quick so why not use that? I'm not a coach, I'm not around these players everyday, but I think putting Shepard at WR is going to limit what he is capable of offensivley. For example; Crowton loves to run option plays, so why not use Shepard for option plays? Jefferson isn't comfortable running them and Lee is slow as hell. Why don't we use a 2 QB system like in 2007? I really hope I'm wrong, I hope Shepard has a breakout year. But I don't see it if we just line him up at WR.

He wouldnt get 6.1 a carry if he carried it more than 2 or 3 times a game. LSU will be good, you negatigers need to put the gun down or step away from the ledge.
