Let remove Kentucky for a second....

Outside of Florida and Tenn, the SEC is hot garbage. Why? The south is littered with world class athletes.

World class athletes who'd rather play football.

Coaches, facilities, and an actual commitment to improving their basketball programs.

Call it what it is.

Basketball is an urban game. Football is not.

Why was the Big East teams so dominant? They recruited New York, Philly, Boston, etc.
you say Duke and UNC? Look at where their best players are from. It aint Chapel Hill NC.

UK recruits New York and the upper east coast like a dog. They can compete with the Nova's and Syracuses of the world for players. The rest of the SEC can not. Hell, the two best players by far in Tennessee's history were from New York.

There's enough talent in the South to develop NCAA Tournament quality teams. We pull guys from up North but we've also had our fair share of Southern players.

Alabama is on the right track hiring someone like Johnson who is charismatic and can keep talent like Petty at home.

The SEC in basketball is what the ACC is in football.

And vice versa.

So why not recruit them away from the blue bloods? How can GA Tech be some what decent but UGA can barely make a free throw? If UGA could have made their free throws, Georgia could beaten the Jayhawks last night

Florida HS basketball is not all that great especially considering Duke and UNC come here and take the best players.

I think the SEC domination in basketball is less advertised than in football.

In the past 6 years, there have been 5 SEC squads in the Final Four.

The BigEast has 5 in 6 year
The Big10 has 4 in 6 years
The ACC has 3 in 6 years
The Big12 has 2 in 6 years
The Pac12 has 0 in 6 years

So I think the other conferences overemphasize their contribution to Shootyhoops.

Nope. The Southern school's dick ride the North like you wouldn't believe. Anthony Unibrow Davis is From Chicago. Did you think Calipari was going to find a kid like that in Lexington, KY? You go where the numbers are. Cities like NY, Chicago, Philly, DC, Detroit, Cleveland/Akron... Those places are basketball obsessed at the high school level. Although Cleveland area is big on football, but those other cities are all about basketball and you have so many kids to choose from. The South is more rural and the culture is obvious more football obsessed.

Lack of prestigious programs outside of UK, everyone is football first, uninspiring coaching hires

Basketball is steeped in tradition more so than football. You won't be able to pull a kid away from Indiana or Syracuse or Duke for a spot on Mississippi State. Unless you pay him a lot of cash under the table.

Tennessee in basketball recently? Wut?

They've maxed out as a tournament team, nothing more than that.

Howland recruited a Top 10 recruiting class to State for 2016. A&M and Auburn were also Top 25. LINK

It can be done with the the right coach who can develop that talent.

He is obviously stuck in a previous decade.

If only there was another SEC team that might have made the sweet 16 last year..

Albeit that is likely our top end, but at least we made it there.
