Are you saying this isn't what every single person in the world has gone through?

The only difference is that they have the opportunity to lose their abilities. There may be a point there, but I don't see it as too much different than a great tech guy having to work shitty jobs to work his way up. Their skills have expiration dates as well.

All top five star blue chip Johnny Hot Shots should sit out their college careers til they are draft eligible...why risk injury? Simply sign with a school....take advantage of their facilities and training table. Dont risk anything on the practice field...just whisper to the head coach you may or may not have an agent repping you and you would hate his school to be investigated...sorta like blackmail. In fact...the more I think about it...its probably better to sit out high school senior seasons and not have injuries to worry about. In a few more years we can talk about sitting out the entire high school career.

Take out an insurance plan. I heard Tebow was insured for $1 mil and that was 5 or 6 years ago. Clowney could probably take one out for $5 mil or more, given his value.

Saw this mentioned somewhere, the issue however is that as a #1 overall pick he would earn around 22 million over the life of his 1st contract plus any endorsements, side deals, ect so the insurance would be a drop in the bucket compared to all the revenue he would lose

Consider Ervin "Magic" Johnson who's 2012 net worth was estimated at 500 million. I don't know if insurance policies were available when he was in college but had he got injured, I I doubt the policy would compensate for his full earning potential, influence, and status

McGahee took out a $2.5MM insurance policy prior to the NC game. He actually turned the money down and said frick it, I'm busting my arse and entering the draft.

Yeah but he wouldn't earn this 22 million all at once. He could, for example, get injured in his first year of the NFL, then placed on IR, then cut. He'd only get a fraction of that original amount.

That makes 5 mil look pretty good for getting injured before getting drafted.

The NCAA should give insurance to any kid that gets predicted to be first round (by a reliable source) for the amount expected at that level. We're only talking about a maximum of 32 players and whatever % is the insurance amount. What would that be $1-2m/yr for all potential 1st round draftees? Seems worth it to me.

For how many years, though? I mean, tough to say for certain that these guys will make it 5 years in the NFL anyways.

If you’re Clowney, what do you do?
Try and rewrite the NCAA record books. If he wants to become a legend, he needs to strive to play to his utmost ability. The number 1 pick (and possibly the Heisman) is within his grasp.

He has to play like a man.

If Lattimore is going to be drafted it would take an extreme freak injury to stop Clowney from going in Round 1

Maybe he should. If he gets Lattimore'd and destroys his knee he will lose millions

This is why I would understand if he does. Those posters who say that he is given up on the team if he sits out don't have the ability to make millions

Any player that would do that is a baby back bitch and would find find their draft stock declining for that very reason.

It's not unprecendented. Clowney sat out for the LSU game last year.
