Why don't we just all hold hands and sing the Barney song while we're at it.

The only time he was heard from last year was the first half of the Arky game.......not coincidentally, JJ was the QB. Ray had a great first half that game.

Back-ups get their own groove/timing down and often times shine when given the chance.

Melvin Ray played baseball instead of going to Bama. I'm not sure I would consider that a flip

Yes he did but he decided to play baseball for the Dodgers organization for three years instead of ever coming to Bama. It is a stretch to say he flipped to Auburn. He basically went through the recruiting process again once he decided to give up baseball and I honestly don't recall if Bama was interested at that time. They very well could have been, but I don't recall.

While Sanders wasn't a dominate DE or anything, he was a solid player on an SECC team.

Loved seeing that dude light people up on special teams. Hoped that intensity would transfer well to him playing DE but it never really did.

Yup, and that's no TJ Yeldon bash from me. I really like TJ Yeldon as evidenced by my post history.

2013
Tre Mason: 317 attempts, 1,816 yards, 5.7 YPC, 23 touchdowns
TJ Yeldon: 207 attempts, 1,235 yards, 6.0 YPC, 14 touchdowns

2014
Cam Artis-Payne: 303 attempts, 1,608 yards, 5.3 YPC, 13 touchdowns
TJ Yeldon: 194 attempts, 979 yards, 5.0 YPC, 11 touchdowns

So per your stats 100 more attempts mean outperforming, gotcha.

Attempts typically contribute to it, yes.

Tre Mason had more yards and touchdowns than TJ Yeldon in 2013, and TJ Yeldon only had the slight advantage in yards per carry (0.3) due to Tre Mason having 110 more carries. That is quite minuscule in the landscape of 110 additional carries. Cam Artis-Payne had more carries, yards, touchdowns and a higher yard per carry than TJ Yeldon in 2014.

It is fairly obvious that the Auburn running backs had the better seasons. Both lead the SEC in rushing and one was invited to the Heisman ceremony.

CAP is just a guy, regardless of his stats. Runs hard, but just a guy.

Mason is a stud

Cam Artis-Payne is reliable, that's what Gus Malzahn loves. His best attributes are vision and cutting ability, which he flashed his whole career. He's never going to "wow" people with his speed or size, IMO, but people have always counted him out and he has never given up. He's kind of like a Vinnie Sunseri, just an awesome football player.

I was just never super impressed with him when I saw him. Seems like a solid player you love on your team, but never scared me in the least like Mason did.

Tre Mason was just crazy good, IMO. This is a guy that rushed for 1,000 yards in Scot Loeffler's offense, which is probably one of the most overlooked seasons in Auburn history, IMO. He went on an absolute tear during 2013, in the SEC, and had one of the best seasons of all time for a running back.

That's what makes Cam Artis-Payne so overlooked, to me at least. He lures you to sleep, but never stops producing. He had a fantastic season but is always given the cold shoulder. He plays with a chip on his shoulder.

I would hope so. He had 110 more carries.

No. You go after the best guys you can get even if they are "committed" somewhere else. Alabama has a couple of three year starters on your list who contributed heavily to national championships. I'm good with Alabama continuing to employ the same strategy in recruiting.

Do you mean "who else did you use?"

Nick Marshall had 172 carries and averaged 6.2 YPC. Cam Artis-Payne had 91 carries and averaged 6.7 YPC. Corey Grant had 66 carries and averaged 9.8 YPC. You act like Tre Mason was the only one that got the ball for Auburn, when, in reality, Auburn rushed for a total of 4,596 yards and 48 touchdowns at 6.3 yards a pop.
