This is not a rant. This is just an observation.

I have been driving quite a bit lately and EVERY sports radio show in Alabama and greater Atlanta is easier to listen to. They are wittier. They have broader topics. And they don’t let bad callers take entire segments to tell long winded pointless stories.

What is the appeal of Finebaum? I am not looking for people to bash him. He has obviously had much commercial success.

I am looking for the guys who actually enjoy Finebaums show. What do you like about it?

When he was in Birmingham all he basically did was let Bama/Auburn fans argue on the radio. He brings nothing, he is rich because of his callers.

I enjoy it during football season when he has sports writers and college analysts on his show. I usually find another station when the knuckle draggers begin calling in. I abhor them all regardless of their team loyalty. I find the show boring during the off-season and never listen other than when I channel surf.

I have never listened to him on the radio or internet. Not once.

It is caller driven that is SEC focused and the hosts are not experts on the NHL. Nothing is worse than having to listen to a Yankee from NY talking about sports.

I’m exactly not what you’re looking for but I’ve thought about this issue over time and can’t not say something. Having only seen him on the SEC Network I just do not get it. His pacing is so slow and methodical it’s painful. So many awkward silences it’s unbearable. I just do not get it. Boring.

Yep.

His takes are trash.

Finebaum sucks his takes suck and he’s so bias you can’t take anything he says seriously. His show thrives because he has your normal size audience added to 60% of an entire state that listens to and participates in his show every single day.

^This

Why he's allowed a 4 hour per day show where he lets the same redneck drunks argue for 15 minutes and then cut a good caller off in 60 seconds is a head scratcher....I can see maybe a 2 hour show earlier in the day. Use the afternoons to show baseball....softball etc.

The only time I listen is if I'm out in my car in the afternoon and even then I turn it when one of those loudmouth drunk rednecks call in. Can't believe if enough folks complained they'd cut his airtime and show more sports coverage.

He can do a great job of interviewing his guests, but the callers, particularly the regulars, really drag the IQ of the show down. It got even worse when he went national.

Not a fan of Paul.

A sports station streamed his show down here in the late 90’s and I just didn’t get it, nor the appeal for it. He talked a pretty good bit about Alabama politics...and he had a sidekick that he made fun of, if I remember correctly. The callers were as ridiculous back then as they are now.

B.o.B. was the greatest all time caller.

Finebaum is to sports radio/media what the WWF is to Greco-Roman wrestling.

Nothing. For a "sports" show he knows very little about the game or why thinks happen. He does not follow recruiting, the lifeblood of college sports.

Basically he kissed the arse if that piece of garbage Mike Slive which got him a national show. Espn had to fill 4 hours of a new station and they had nothing.

I like Paul cause he knows his stuff. He talks about SEC football and mostly stays away from the other stuff I don't care about. And on his show fans get a chance to say what they want. Its real. Not some bunch a baloney.

It apparently appeals to people who enjoy inane juvenile arguing. The only good thing ever on his show is the interviews. It's especially funny when people ask him to break down some aspect of a game or team, as though he has any clue.

I can't listen to it anymore. I never really enjoyed it, but it's gotten more political as time has gone on just like ESPN as a whole has. That ruined what little bit of affinity I had for it.

I can't listen to it anymore unless he is interviewing someone worth listening to...a coach, another analyst (think Herbstreit, Danielson, etc) or someone that is important,,,,,he is one of best interviewers in the business but his callers just drag the show down....it was amusing when it was on the radio and local to Birmingham and he had some real characters but it doesn't translate well to SECN-ESPN
