SEC's Program Success Index

Inspired by the thread yesterday on which program was the best throughout all sports I put this together.


Taking the current rankings and championship finishes as of 3/15/2012, I've developed a simple index for program success. Where a team finishes in the final poll or as in track and field where the team places in the Championship meet is where the points come from. There is a 50 point penalty for not being ranked in a sport, essentially ranking the sucky teams 50th in each respective sport. If a team finished lower than 50th, they were rounded up to 50th in the calculations.

This is the spreadsheet of all SEC sponsored sports and bass fishing since all the schools participate and it's a prevalent activity in our southern culture.

So the Program Success Index reveals a few things.
Some that were not a suprise and some that are interesting.

First Florida is across the board solid in all of its sports teams, Football is usually top 15 in the last 20 year so Muschamp has to right that really quick.

Second, Texas A&M. I was surprised to see them rank in as many sports as they do, but the important ones they suck arse in. The revenue sports A&M lags way behind in.

Third, tFLAGSHIP. We either go big or go home. Way overperforming, we shite the pot at the Xcountry championships and DNP in a sport we dominated not that long ago.

Fourth, Tenner is in deep shite, only bass fishing saved them from averaging over 40 on a scale that maxes out @ 50. The Tennessee program is underperforming so badly its embarassing.

Fifth, Mizzou really sucks, this hoops team being ranked high is their feather in the cap, and Florida could very well bounce them in the 2nd round this weekend to drop them further down the index.

Sixth, Why in the hell is Vanderbilt still in the SEC? Why do we not have more events in Nashville? Great music town, centrally located, lots of entertainment and hotel rooms. Nashville should be host to more SEC tournaments and Champ. games.

Seventh, Alabama only cares about football, if they had to do it clean they'd be Miss. St. Bama is the most overrated program in college sports.

Eighth, LSU really has the most potential in the SEC. Larger population base, deep pool of athletes, great warm weather, they are the major university in their state, they don't really have to share the state with other schools. La Tech, ULL, Tulane are glorified DII schools.

Ninth, S. Carolina and Kentucky are one trick ponies, they really need to step it up and leverage their SEC membership in neighboring states.

Tenth, Why in god's name is Missouri now in the SEC? I don't mind A&M, but Missouri is culturally a non-fit and their wrestling program is soon to be an orphan. They might as well offer Lacrosse and men's soccer. They're the welfare recipient of the SEC.
