There was an article talking about how they plan to skirt the over signing rule by using blueshiriting and grey shirting. I tea it a few weeks ago but basically without attrition and some testing of sec rules UT would be oversigning. Hence the processing and etc. I also read that UT plans to take a big class next season which begs the question.....how?

I'm surprised UT has to cut players. I thought we were pretty far under the scholarship limit due to attrition from previous staffs.

You are probably correct. UGA signed 34 last year because we were so under our allotted amount of players. I'm just talking about an article I read in reference to CBJ plans to sign another big class next season. In order to meet the 85 limit he is supposedly testing some new rule that no team has ever tested. If I find the article I will link it.

Google Tennessee and blue shirting and the first few articles that pop up discuss it in detail.

You seem to be reasonable, so I'll try to lay it out. All of this assumes that our team total is now around 50 players after subtracting seniors, transfers and early departures (at least 1 - Tiny Richardson).

Let's say the 15 EEs is correct - 6 of them are counted against 2013 since we only signed 19 in February. So we're at 9 for 2014. So we sign 16 in February to complete our 25 for 2014. That puts us at a legal 31 in the class.

That might be the end of it. But if Butch wants a few more, he can probably get 3 or 4 or 5 to not sign an LOI in February, but instead to pay their own way and walk on in August. After the season, they would get a ship and count in the 2015 class.

Is that oversigning? Not by my definition.

The kids who are willing to blue-shirt also can't take officials and have no in-home visits (not sure if that is just from the school he goes to). That would be a tough sell unless they are long term legacies/life time fans of a school.

I gotcha. Obviously your coaches have a plan to ensure your at least hitting a full 85 which can never hurt. UGA has had issues in this area for years and when we played Bama last year we had less scholarship players on the roster than USC which was on probation. Having a full 85 would help with the injury issues we suffered this season but the team still hasn't filled depth at skill positions. By the way, UTs wr core is going to be really good if you guys find a qb UT will be a force. Good luck

It's interesting how many different states from which those 15 kids hail.

I would probably take this approach too at Tennessee. Butch sees what Saban did with this approach and he is trying to make up 2 years in one. It should help but how much will yet to be determined.

Huge influx of talent coming in at the skill positions. 2 top 5 SEC TEs in Helm and Wolf, an elite RB in Hurd, and 2 elite WRs in Pearson and Malone. Should help out inconsistent TE and WR play from last year.

Then outside of 2-3 OL the rest will be on Defense. A few DL, secondary, and LB guys. All of which could use upgrades as well

Central location makes us a great recruiting spot. A lot of N. GA and C. GA recruits might as well be locals - some are Tennesseans who go to school across the border in GA or are border kids who consider both places home. We can and do recruit South, East Coast, Midwest and West and have the biggest recruiting budget in the SEC.

This year's class is the first of a crop of instate talent that is expected to grow over the next few years. Knoxville and Middle Tennessee have stepped up their High School game and a lot of the school's in East, TN that are smaller but have produced more than one NFLer are no longer being ignored.

FWIW, most of our graduating senior o-line + Jr. Tiny Richardson (who will be a high draft pick) is instate talent. We're not a state like Florida (we're not populated enough for that) but the instate talent deficit is overblown and getting smaller by the year.
