West Virginia was a legit team when they were scheduled.

Non-conferene scheduling is a bit of a crap shoot, your premire games can become crummy if a team tanks. You normally schedule 2-3 years in advance.

To be fair, West Virginia was a lot better when that game was scheduled. Southern Miss was a lot better just two years ago too.

I konw this is shocking to the SDS boys but teams change from year to year.

Exactly. If you had Auburn or Missouri as an OOC game last year they would have been factored at 3-9 and 5-7 going into last year, but both finished the regular season 11-1. WVU and Southern Miss were a combined 22-5 just two years ago, which is when we signed the WVU game. Bama has always played Southern Miss on a regular basis. Hell, we have played them more than Florida or Kentucky.

How many other teams have scheduled one of their non-conference games on the road against a team that won their conference.

We had to fill a home spot with USM. Sadly, they were 12-2 just in 2011. They have bottomed out badly.

WVA was scheduled right after their 2011 season, where they won their conference, went 10-3, and plastered Clemson 70-33 in their bowl game. How were we supposed to know they'd suck last year?

UT home and home with Oklahoma 2014/2015.

Last year did a home and home with Oregon. The first year of it was 2010, the year after Oregon won their conference.

People bitching about non-conference schedules need to keep 2 things in mind

1. Nonconference schedules are 100% up to the schools. They're not supposed to be "fair" schools can do whatever the hell they want, be it easy, hard, home, road, etc.

2. They mean nothing for the SEC title, which is ultimately the only reliable path to the national championship playoff.

West Virginia was 10-3, Big East champions, and had just throttled Clemson 70-33 in the Orange Bowl when the game was scheduled.

They were still better than UCF 2-3 years ago when these games were agreed upon.

Yeah I'm not talking about scheduling games when teams are good and playing them four years later. When did you play a team who was a conference champion when you played them

A true road game is what I'm looking for here not a neutral site between two schools

Do you really think UCF is as legit an OOC opponent as WVU, Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan, UCLA, etc.

A neutral site game against a big five conference team is better than a freaking road game to a team in the AAC.

A home-home is no different than 1 or 2 neutral site games.
