When I was younger (in the 70's) AU was referred to as 'the plainsmen' from time to time.
You do realize just because a newspaper called them the plainsmen from time to time it didn't mean the actual university recognized it as an official mascot, right?
And you do realize that 'war eagle' has been around for about 100 years now, right?

You're reading in an awful lot into what I just said man.

Correct...I never said they did.

Yes.

Hurricanes
"Miami adopted a native marsh bird called the Ibis as the official mascot in 1926. The Ibis is known for its bravery as a hurricane approaches. Folklore maintains that other birds look to the Ibis for leadership. The Ibis uses its instinct to detect danger. It is the last sign of wildlife to take shelter before a hurricane hits, giving warning that danger is imminent. As the storm passes the Ibis is the first to reappear, a sign that clear skies are approaching."
As far as the Volunteer and Crimson Tide mascots are concerned, WTF do you want them to do? Dress up some Bruno-ish guy as an 1800s soldier (gay), or some sad soul in a red wave costume (even gayer)?

Here's a better pic of Tiger Stadium. This year's Florida game during pregame activities. The stands are not full but you can see people still streaming into the game.
That is a great pic of Tiger Stadium. I've always loved the tiger eye at mid field.

Actually all three schools have decent logos and basketball arenas.
Auburn's logo is probably the most recognizable, though LSU's is well known as well.
Auburn also has a very nice new basketball arena.
But LSU recently refurbished the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and added a new practice facility.
It seats more people also - nearly 15,000.
As far as stadiums and mascots it really isn't even close.
Tiger Stadium seats 92,500 right now, will seat 100,000 in a couple of years with the SEZ addition, and is undergoing a nice exterior and ground overhaul and beautification. It already is the loudest, rowdiest, and has the best tailgating and pregame pageantry and atmosphere by far.
Jordan Hare is also a large, loud SEC stadium, seating nearly 90,000. Mizzou is planning a gorgeous addition and refurbishing to its nearly 60,000 seat edifice.
LSU has a live 800 pound Siberian/Bengal Tiger who lives in his own luxurious habitat and is cared for by the Top 3 LSU Vet School. He is visited by millions of visitors and is beloved by children who take pictures with Mike putting his paws or tongue up against the glass :)
www.mikethetiger.com
Costumed 'Mike' is widely known for his antics in the stadium, the student section, on the field, etc. He has worn tuxes, capes, top hats, shirts, etc., and makes hundreds of appearances at sporting, charity, and community events.
Aubie is pretty cool as well, doing antics in the stadium during Tiger games.
Just to show these Auburn people that some people know -
Auburn's live eagle mascot is named 'Tiger'. He flies majestically across Jordan-Hare during pregame.
'War Eagle' is a war cry - a traditional spirit yell if you will, not a mascot.
'Plainsmen' is just a novelty moniker that the media used to call the Auburn team, much like 'Bayou Bengals' for LSU.
Their official nickname is "Tigers."

I thought the names were Spirit and Nova?

Currently, the Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center uses three birds, Spirit, a bald eagle, Nova a golden eagle, and War Eagle VI (Tiger).
I don't think Tiger is used anymore. Nova is the main one to fly the stadium.

This guy is the coolest/laziest Tiger ever. I'm 90% sure you could let him go on the parade grounds and he would spend the first 10 minutes trying to chase frisbees and footballs and trying to get people to play with him, and then the rest of the time lying in the shade by the trees, I doubt he would hurt a soul.
I bet you could walk in there and pet him like a dog whenever he is sunbathing and he wouldn't give a frick

Just for added fun what are you gonna call the 3 tigers. for me:
The Tigers
The faux Tigers
The yankee Tigers
You don't have to call LSU the faux Tigers just because y'all were second. Us Aubies don't mind sharing.

Yeah, Tiger (War Eagle VI) is still alive and is displayed when the SERRC does promotions. But she isn't allowed to free-fly anymore due to her advanced age.
Nova is now War Eagle VII (because the War Eagle is traditionally a golden eagle).
Spirit is just a valuable and beloved cousin of the War Eagle family.

The fact that people such as yourself can't see that this happens in other places yet continue to act like Auburn is the only school who has done it makes me
The only reason we do it is because it gets them riled up. It pleases me to get bites from non-Auburn fans though, so thanks for playing.

Logo: Mizzou, Auburn, LSU
Stadium: Oviously LSU Tiger Stadium is impressive, but I love the history and ongoing new freshman painting of the giant rock M at Mizzou
Mascot: LSU live tiger is awesome...among the fake tigers, I say....Truman is best
BB arena: Mizzou,, Auburn, LSU
Most likely any SEC school probably beats our baseball stadium. Work to be done there, as well as football stadium
