I dont think the gap is anywhere near what SEC pundits and fans made it to be. There is a lot more parity in college football than many thought.
Limiting it to this season, I will agree. However, it is still enough of a gap that there isn't another conference that can make a case as being better.

The SEC is good... but there are a couple of things going on...

1. The offenses in the SEC really suck this year.

2. Other teams are tired of hearing about the SEC and are coming out pumped looking to beat them.

3. There were plenty of SEC teams this year with national championship hopes. When that didn't pan out, they weren't as motivated like earlier in the season. Teams like Louisville and Clemson never really had national championship hopes and were just happy to get where they were. Winning their bowl was a huge goal to their season.

4. When teams have a month to prepare for SEC defenses, they should score more points than they normally would.

Played without two starters in the secondary and one backup. Also lost my starting right tackle who was replaced by a TRUE FRESHMAN with about 15 real game snaps all year.

this makes no sense

if you're going to laugh the concept of "rust" off, are you willing to accept that Oregon defended Auburn than any of the vaunted SEC defenses?

If that's the case, Oklahoma is fricked on Friday.

Is this post serious? Woulda coulda shoulda.

I don't even know where to start but LSU got Clemson without Sammy Watkins. And I attended a lot of LSU games. That was not our D game. We played that way much of the year.

The fact is that LSU, Florida, and UGA are not top 5 teams this year. Too sporadic and undisciplined on the whole.

The SEC has 6 pretty good teams and a couple of other decent teams which is definitely more than any other conference. But there is no 'great team' this year nor a gap between SEC and all other CFB combined. IMO. But stop and think...it could be said the SEC is on par with everyone else combined. That's quite an accomplishment, isn't it?

Certainly wasn't your A, B, or C game. It wasn't like Clemson was shutting down Hill...Miles was.

Watch the game. Nick Fairley tackled both James and Thomas on more than a few plays. He ate your inverted veer alive. Ricky Heimuli only eats donuts.

I'm not sure your moral victory is even a moral victory. Mississippi State holds that moral victory "distinction."

Be damn proud of holding them to only 519 yards though

Florida doesn't have an A B C or D game this year.

They only have S and U.

This was a U game.

Clemson outgained LSU all night on offense. If you're going to qualify the loss by saying Miles and LSU gave it away by not running the ball late, I will go ahead and say that if Clemson doesn't fumble deep in their own territory twice it's a blowout. Edit - Clemson won that game without their best player.

Did you even watch the game? Or did you look google a recap?

LSU dominated the trenches. The LSU D-Line was blowing up Clemson's line pretty much the whole night. The Clemson QB was balling though. The officiating was horrendous and slanted against LSU- there's no discussion about that. If there is, it's another sign you don't know much about football, but given the fact that you are a PAC 12 fan, it is to be expected.

LSU averaged 7.36 yards per carry. That's hardly a poor showing by an offensive line. Metts got sacked a lot. Metts got sacked a lot because he's a bad QB. He thinks he has 8 seconds to throw the ball and / or moves into defenders on a regular basis because he's got no sense of the pocket. LSU loses that game because of terrible play callling and terrible coaching. Period.

Clemson did not play their A game either, and they didnt have Watkins or a starting o-lineman.

They flat out were the better team. Their D-line overpowered LSU's o-line all game. Mett was pasted into the turf again and again and again. LSU was impressive sacking Boyd repeatedly, but Clemson's offense still managed to put up a lot more yardage.

Good points. Damn facts always going to shine through!

Thats just dumb. You think Clemson was happy that they lost to South Carolina(which many thought cost them a BCS at large) and not playing for the ACC title and Orange Bowl? I am sure other kids from other teams were just as upset about not getting in bigger games. Thats a lame arse excuse the SEC uses EVERY YEAR when they lose a bowl game. Truly competitive people need nothing other than the game to get hyped up.

We loved your work in the 3-2 defensive shootout game. All of those MSU/AU tilts are legendary.

Easy Ducktales, watching this league closely for the first time I can say I never understood just how big the gap was until this year.

Every other conference has 1, some have 2 or even 3 very good teams a year. SEC will roll out 5-6 very very good teams every year. And by very good I mean they could very well beat whoever is slotted to play against the SEC in the nat'l championship.
