SEC should determine East/West champ based on divisional record, not conference

This would eliminate the headache caused by Foley's mess.
The SEC West school with the best record against the other 6 SEC West schools goes to Atlanta.
The SEC East school with the best record against the other 6 SEC East schools gets to lose in Atlanta.

The SEC East Title goes through College Station (tomorrow) and Tuscaloosa (later this month).
That makes no sense, Vols fans should be perplexed by this!

If conference win % is what determines who goes, they should just change it to conference win total. In a typical year, the teams with the highest win % is the team with the highest total wins. In this year, people are assuming UTk goes potentially 6-2 with losses to aTm and Bama. The assumption is that UF runs the table and goes 6-1. Going of total wins, UTk still goes due to having the same # of wins and the h2h win. I don't see how this isn't common sense.

It makes perfect sense. The East is still a shitshow.

So what if the game was played between 2 teams in the same divison? Waht if a scenario occurs where Team A has 1 division loss to team B, team B has 2 division losses, but team A avoided the 2nd best team in the divsion because the game was canceled and gets to go to Atl?

This will all be very amusing when Vandy pulls off the miracle upset to hand UT their third loss, and Florida goes regardless.

Why don't we just make it the two best teams in the conference?
That way, Alabama and A&M can play each other twice.

Absolutely true, but under the current rules, it is looked at as one less opportunity to get a loss. Changing it to total wins throws even the NOTION that a conference game doesn't get played out the window because neither party would have an advantage.

Yeah let's change the rules for 1 EXTREMELY rare occurance that affects 14% of the league.

Go play your game. Don't be stubborn with USA.

No. In 2016, the division champion should be determined by the rules established before the season began. Rules on determining the champion should never be changed mid-stream.
The time for change is in the offseason, when the schools can take the time to think things out and address this glaring weakness in the rules appropriately. That way the pressures and biases caused by the season we are in right now will play less of a role in the decision making process.
Even though LSU could conceivably get the raw deal on this this year, I wouldn't want another school changing the rules on something else, in the middle of some other future season, for their benefit.
I can't stand this situation. But we follow the rules. Change the rules for next year.
EDIT: for the OP... I read too fast and thought you meant THIS year. I didn't see that you did not specify that in the OP. I'll leave this here as a response for anyone who wants to change the rules this season.

You are clearly new here.
Rule changes should ALWAYS be done because of extreme situations, thanks to emotions running rampant. Duh.

I mean they already violated the rule requiring that the ADs and Commissioner "shall use their best effort to ensure each Conference contest is played to its conclusion" so why stop now?
