pretty sure Tennessee was the first SEC school to actually hold classes. Georgia "founded" the University first but didn't actually begin having classes until 20 or so years later

ETA: UGA's first graduating class was 1804. Tennessee began it's first classes in 1794

1831 - Alabama (1892)

Even though they had no team, Bama is looking in to claiming these 60 years as national Titles as well.

Well we were undefeated during that time frame and won every bowl we played in.

Joke was funny in the OP.

Also, while LSU fans kid around about this, we were a top 15 program in wins all time in the year 2000 even after our worst decade in program history.

Just sayin'

We were an elite institution from 1801 until the Civil War, comparable to UVA. Then, the Civil War, the Radical Republicans, and Ben Tillman trashed our school. Such a shame.

He's been out of office for over 5 years and you're still blaming Bush.:)

Was Georgia still a criminal colony back then? Kinda funny that Georgia was founded for that purpose and over two centuries later their football players still honor their roots.

Well frick, dude. Given that the school was founded AFTER the Revolutionary War, no I don't think we qualified any longer as a colony, let alone a penal colony that consisted almost entirely of common debtors that England no longer wanted rotting away in prisons back at home. So, your analogy sucks on two historical levels.

Good job

Actually it was East Alabama Male College. Wasn't "auburn" till the 60s.

Actually, it was more a scam to be fallen victim to than a crime. If you were short on your taxes, you were thrown in debtors prison and, the thing is, you can't really make an income locked away in a disease-ridden jail cell but that didn't stop the crown from taxing you again the next go round. So, even when forced to work off the debts, people never really got out of debtors prison because they couldn't ever catch up with the debt hanging over their heads.

Really it's a historical analogy for student loans.

Nerve struck. Mark Richt has lost control of UGA fans' sense of humor.

No nerve struck, you just deserve to have it pointed out how completely stupid and moronic your attempt at humor was.

Very interesting that Mizzou, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt were the flagship universities in football.

So did none of those early Florida schools play football?
