Kind of funny really. For the Saints, Ingram isn't a very good back. The Saints want a shifty very fast back who can catch the ball out of the backfield because all they do is throw....and the occasional run to to surprise people, mostly their own running backs once in a while.

Chris Ivory and Pierre Thomas both have higher ypc than Ingram and they both run between the tackles.

The Saints were the #12 rushing team in the NFL in 2011.. without Ingram. He's a basically fat and lazy and a huge bust at this point. I'd love nothing more than for him to turn it on and bust out a 1.5k rushing yard season.. but it will never happen. Just a terrible draft pick and that error was compounded by bountygate.

No running back is going to rush for 1500 yards with the Saints, as they are right now. The most carries for any Saints running back in 1 game this year is only 16 carries.

If you were to allow 1 Saints running back 16 carries EVERY game, he would amass 256 carries on the season and in order to get 1500 yards, he would need to have a YPC of over 5.8 (which would rank 3rd in the entire NFL this year).

But the truth is, the Saints don't commit to 1 running back so this scenario has no chance at all. The last time this happened was in 2006 with Duece. Every year since, the Saints have run a 2, 3, or 4 back rotation with every back getting similar # of carries. The possibility of 1500 yards is impossible.

That's because none of running backs are good enough to carry the load.

This is a trend that goes back to 2007. I think the total number of games where a running back for the Saints got over 16 carries might be at most 8 or 9 games.

For instance, Reggie Bush for his career with the Saints only had 5 games with at least 16 carries. He wasn't very good either with the Saints. Then he got traded to the Dolphins and went to be the primary back in a 2 back system, what do you know his 1st season there he had a very good year (1100 yards and 5 YPC). He also had 5 16+ carry games in that one year alone.

YES. As a Colts fan I have been really impressed with Ballard...if we weren't always down by 10 maybe Luck wouldn't have to throw 50 times and he would have more carries and yards.

How about a little Aggie consideration.

Michael Goodson - 6.7 ypc (only 30 carries for 200 yards)
Jorvorskie Lane - 1 ypc but he's got 3 TDs for a full back (3 rush, 1 rec)
Cyrus Gray - 7.0 ypc (only 5 carries for 35 yards)

Top 5 ranked by YPC

1. Stevan Ridley (4.4)
2. (tied) Benjarvus Green-Ellis (4.1)
2. (tied) Mark Ingram (4.1)
2. (tied) Vic Ballard (4.1)
5. Arian Foster (4.0)

I think the better question is who who you rather have on your team?

1. Foster
2. Ridley
3. Law Firm
4/5. Ballard or Ingram

He has zero. But, the Saints offense doesn't allow running backs to flourish.
