But money wise they wouldn't bring as much as a UNC/Duke package.

2 States are better than 1. Yes we would have a premier basketball rivalry but this is about cable TVs. We need to be on every cable TV in North Carolina and Virginia. Not just North Carolina.

If it was a life money grab, UNC/Duke would be undoubtedly a smarter move.

Would Virginia Tech be a more interesting football game for the rest of us? Yes. No question. But money wise they wouldn't bring as much as a UNC/Duke package.

This is where we disagree. Virginia Tech is going to bring in the Baltimore and DC. markets. And yes, we all know that football is king and that is what brings in the $$$

UNC football would be formidable

I agree, I think we will go after/want a North Carolina team.

That's true and it isn't. If you wanted to get in to those two states why wouldn't you just grab VCU and Appalachian State? Because at a certain point, quality of matchup is important. Duke/UNC are nationally followed programs, and when you're talking about content, especially tier 3 content, quality of matchup is very important. The Big East isn't pushing out a network when they expand literally from coast to coast. 2 states would he greater than 1, all else equal, but all else isn't equal.

You failed to mention what Duke brings to the table? Answer: NOTHING. Maybe $20mil/yr in basketball revenue.

Va Tech brings $100+ million/yr in football revenue.

baseball they would shore up the SEC networks demand in the spring. In fact their viewership in the spring would be the highest in all the SEC.

Not sure if serious? You clearly have NO CLUE about SEC baseball. Success on the field does not necessarily equal fan interest and support. #38 in attendance Worse than 12 SEC teams.

Duke is not and will not be on the radar for the next expansion.

That is true, but the gap between UNC-Duke and NC State is MUCH closer than VCU and App. State. You are right, quality of match-ups are important. But NC State is definitely well above that line. They might not be the biggest Fanbase in N.C. but there are more than enough Alumni/Fans that will call their cable companies to get the SEC Network on Basic Cable on every Cable outlet in the state. App State couldnt get 1.

Bringing in markets is a very simplistic way of looking at it, especially when you understand what else is in the DC market to compete with. In a state like Louisiana there isn't much competition.

IMO, UNC solo is a bigger draw than Virginia Tech football wise. They don't have the winning tradition of Virginia Tech and couldn't carry the DC market as well, but it would be moot imo given what else they bring.

Isn't it annoying how its always the noob teams who are talking more expansion? The SEC as it was was the best conference in the nation, why do they continue to theorize about fixing what's not broken?

BS.

You put SEC baseball on in the spring, when nothing else is really happening in the sports world, and I don't care if you've got Tennessee vs Tenn Tech, this whole REGION tunes in for those midweek games.

Duke adds value to ONE sport...in which they would never, EVER be on a tier 3 SEC network...

The SEC does not need more markets. It's doing just fine.

Not sure what your point is. VT is not competing with the Orioles, Nationals, or Wizards. And the Ravens and Redskins are on TV on Sunday.

Please show me some proof, because I don't believe it. Plus, like I have stated, I would like UNC and VT

Isn't there a frick ton of LSU grads in Houston?

a frick ton and a half. and we've improved this city substantially. we also have a quarter of a frick ton of grads in nashville and it is also in improvement mode. there has already been an improvement in the restaraunt scene in nashville with more to come. let's face it, the world needs us.
