List as of October 2010 (Mr. Purple Drank is not included) of the number of current NFL players by SEC team:

quote:

1. LSU – 39 players

2. Georgia – 38 players

3. Tennessee – 37 players

4. Florida – 32 players

5. Auburn – 28 players

6. Alabama – 26 players

7. Ole Miss – 21 players

8. South Carolina – 17 players

9a. Arkansas – 14 players

9b. Mississippi State – 14 players

11. Kentucky – 11 players

12. Vanderbilt – 9 players

Altogether, the SEC currently has 286 players in the NFL. The East has 144 and the West has 142.

Numbers will change after 2011 draft and offseason attrition, but how much they change remains to be seen. Any real surprises here? Thought Gators would have more and I expect Bama's numbers to increase with the classes Saban has brought in.

No surprises.

Just confirms what we already know to be true. No one did less with more than Fulmer

Mark Ritch disagrees.

The UT number really does stick out. Tenn has a long history of NFL talent and it is surprising more wasn't done on the field with the talent that was in place.

They have one more, but our players are better.

Tennessee is second only to Miami in Pro Bowl selections this year.

I had an idea recently, would anyone want to do a thread of SEC NFL players statistics next season week by week? Maybe get a sticky each week?

Think we do. I'll take a quick look and see if I can find a definitive number on total NFL players by college conference.

I have to think it will be between the PAC 10 and the SEC.

Couldn't find a definitive number (maybe someone else could hook us up with this?), but would bet Jed is right that it's between SEC and Pac 10/12 with SEC having the lead. If you count in Colorado and Utah for the Pac 12 then number might get closer, but I'd bet it's still SEC.

That's a great idea. Newcomers AJ, Julio, Ingram, Mallett and old hands Bowe, Moreno, Hillis, Green-Ellis, Manning(s) etc etc. I'd definitely be down for this.

I know not everyone cares about them once they hit the NFL, but some do(I certainly do).

It would be something to try, couldn't hurt. Worst thing that could happen is that it would get moved to the MSB

Yeah I used to not care about the NFL at all, but I started doing fantasy football about 5 years ago and now I'm hooked. Hell I'll take banishment to the MSB if that means we could do this

WOW didn't realize that the Powerhouse that is Arkansas has the same exact number of NFL players as Mississippi State.

That's what ole' Nuttster will do for you. Kill your pro chances.

Arkansas has half of that or more of the roster right now that will get a chance at the NFL at least.
