They were redneck America's team. That's about it.
Exactly. So why don't more southerners like the Cowboys instead of the Saints?
The Saints fan base has clearly grown a lot.
Bourbon St. on gameday is full of out-of-towners.

North as opposed to west? Both border LA. And I could very easily see an Arkansas fan being a Falcons fan. And defintely a Cowboys fan. Hell, everyone loved them, and Arkansas has no in-state team, and the Cowboys were dominate for quite a while.
New Orleans is further away than Dallas or KC depending on which part of the state you live.
The majority of the state is Cowboys fans (a former Arkansas player owns them) or Chiefs fans.

quote:The Saints get alot of local media coverage in those neutral states (Alabama and Mississippi). People will naturally gravitate towards a team they hear more about if they don't have a previous alliance.
one could also wonder why the people from "neutral" states didn't choose another team.

There isn't loyalty from fans in pro sports like there is in college sports.
People are more likely to band wagon in pro sports.

And a lot of Saints fans aren't fans of Roman Harper..I for one am; just pointing it out.
ETA: I am a fan of Harper..just for clarification

Nobody got more coverage than the Cowboys in the 90s. Do you think the Saints maybe have some Cowboys who crossed over?

It's about twice as far from Montgomery to Dallas as it is from Montgomery to New Orleans.

I agree with this. It's unfortunate for people who have followed them for a lifetime too.
It also sucks for the teams who were given up on.

With the expansion teams maybe. Tell the diehard fans of the Giants, Redskins, Packers, Bears, etc that.

There are lots of Saints fan along the MS/AL gulf coast who are Reb, Dawg, Tide, and War Eagle fans. Mostly a geography thing. Lots of Reb fans became Saints fans when Archie was drafted.

And..ya know, most of that fanbase in MS(and Mobile)is only around 75 miles from New Orleans
Not to mention the fact that several great Saints have been from Mississippi(Archie Manning, Deuce McAllister, etc)

I understand, but he's one of the few from around here that actually can start in the NFL.

That didn't matter when the Cowboys had Emmitt, Aikman, Deon, etc..
or when Miami had Marino
Or when Atlanta went to a SB with Vick and Anderson

Of course you have your die hards, I didn't say you did.
I even mentioned diehards with the O's and Cardinals fans in the state because they use to be in St. Louis (and a long arse time ago at that ).

I'm originally from Chicago and I'm all Chicago for pro sports.
The Bulls bandwagon years were horrible, especially with someone like myself that has and will always stick with the Cubs going into the hostile territory of Missouri while having fake bandwagon people pick up the Bulls during the winning.
