Speaking as an LSU season ticket holder - the cost of tickets has steadily increased (but thankfully not as high as the other Big 6 SEC schools). Plus, the time you must invest to get to campus early to park and get to the stadium and then the time to get off campus and return home.

But it's not really the cost or the time - its the return.

While we want to support our team, we also go for the entertainment aspect. Having Tiger Stadium empty out at half-time leaves 1.5 hours of very little stadium atmosphere/excitement that can only occur when the stadium is mostly full. LSU can improve the game experience by mixing up the game routine - it seems they play the same piped in music in the same order (as does TGBFT) every game. Other than that, the extended timeouts (especially when the game is on CBS) become boring. People lose interest and leave.

All of that being said, I go to every game, but it occurred to me a few times last season that "hey, this isn't really fun for the amount of money invested".

And I love football - and lets face it - watching a game on HD-TV is a much better way to enjoy the actual game. You get more info, injury reports, replays, commentary, etc. Why can't they add those aspects to the in-stadium experience?

Just some thoughts. Other SEC fans find similar things with your home stadium experiences?

Depends on where you sit and which game.

Better seats require a higher annual donation. Big 6 SEC games cost more than Vandy or directional school OOC games.

Ticket face value for Alabama game last year was 70. Per seat annual donations for me (way up high in the upper deck) are $100.

This and the fact that too many LSU games are moved to afternoon. I flat out refuse to attend a day game in Tiger Stadium until later in the season when it begins to get dark in the second half.

I gave in and went to the Ole Miss game last season. Me, the crowd and the team were asleep the first half and didn't wake up until the third quarter about the time it started to get a little dark. We thrive on Nocturnal football in that stadium!

It is amazing how different Tiger Stadium looks and feels during the day compared to night. Its like two completely different stadiums.

Isnt that the case for most SEC, if not all major programs? I know it is with AU. Doesnt mean I am going to miss a game because it is at 11am, well unless its a shitty FCS team

i will be dropping my tickets this year because i have only had access to one set, and refuse to shell out money for a 2nd set for my wife to attend.. she doesn't enjoy it enough. and 2 small kids complicate things, just time to turn on the television i suppose. I'll still go to a couple of games a year, but not every one as i have recently.

i'll look to pick it back up when my boy is ready to rock out in a few years.

Price and ability to watch in front of tv and not fight crowds, traffic and obnoxious (drunk) fans. It's not as much family entertainment as it used to be.
A&M charged $100 for LSU ticket last year.

I haven't seen this mentioned. One of the main reasons that I have stopped going to games is that you miss so many other games. I'm a huge Bama fan, but also just as big a fan of the SEC and college football. If we have a 2:30 kickoff, you miss the 11am games getting to Tuscaloosa and with our 3 hour drive home, you miss most of the later games

I think this is part of the tailgating/television experience the athletic department needs to exploit. A&M for example, which is why I enjoy our tailgating way more than I did the Grove was is allows people to bring out their extravagant outdoor grills and such, has Spence Park for people with meager tailgating setups. There needs to be electric outlets that promote/enable people to bring televisions out for cheap. For a 7 o clock game, if you are out of town, you need a hotel, so that is an added expense, but that tailgating time, there are so many good games going on that, yes a lot of people have figured out, but it is a costly and time consuming venture. I hope my athletic department makes our tailgating experience not only the nicest, but the most technologically advanced. I really think that could set us apart, and get a lot of YOUTH to games.

No athletic dept will spring for free electricity so fans can tailgate & watch tv. There are enough ways to watch televised games out at the stadium as it is now. People are getting spoiled, for better or worse, by being able to sit at home & watch every game on the tube in the comfort of their own homes. There are some incedible tailgating setups out there now, so it's more of a comfort issue than anything else for many fans, that and the fact that college football has priced many fans out of yrs & yrs of long held seats.

1. Season ticket waiting list too long.
2. Season tickets that do become available are generally not the best seats.
3. Cost of "premiere" games on a per-game basis
e.g. - Alabama game last year - prices on the ticket exchanges were astronomical.

None of these or any other reasons will stop me, however, from driving up I-10 from suburban N.O. to the greatest campus, venue, stadium, daygame atmosphere, pre-game, tailgating, and stadium in the Milky Way Galaxy.

I tailgate, but no longer go into the games. It is much more comfortable to watch outside and continue to drown my liver in alcohol.

Charge people for plots and wifi hotspots and shite, just like you do a parking pass.

Exactly, and Universities need to be cognizant of this, and proactively try to drive down the prices so they can attract people now. It is an investment in the future. Millennials, for better or worse, are going to foot the bill in the future. How do you get them off their luxurious set ups at home?

I honestly can't say I prefer going to a game more than watching it on tv.

The issue not seen is the reallocation of good seats from fans to scalpers. Say Donor A is an alumni who donated 5 K and gets 2 decent seats and Donor B is a Stanford grad (Stub Hub) who donates 10 K and gets 40 seats and resells them on Stub Hub. The issue is the fundraising offices are wasting more money on folks who do less work and want to bulk sell instead of working on individual relationships.

20 years ago you had staffs who knew fans individually and worked them as they got older and could afford better seats. Today you have some 20 - 30 year old who can not communicate with older folks and only want to sell the top 50 - 100 donors and can't be bothered with anybody else. Dynamic is changing greatly and the money train of older fans in near the end of the line.

When I was younger a football game being an all day event for a 7pm start was fun. Now that I'm older it's not as appealing as it once was. Moved more toward baseball.

I've been lucky in that having a ticket to a football game was never an issue. Nowdays we (the family) normally give them away to customers of our business (like many do).

2:30 kickoff times in early September in places like Tuscaloosa or College Station make for a miserable gameday experience

I'm still going to all the games, but not sure how much longer. The parking is getting more difficult/expensive and traffic is a nightmare. On top of all that it seems that the games are getting pushed back further and further. We had 3 kickoffs at 7PM or later last year. That's awful when you have a 3 hour drive home (after you get out of the traffic).
