Oh, I don't want Texas in the conference.
I would't mind TCU though.
I would love FSU/Clemson

UNC & Duke. It would make the SEC the best football, baseball, and basketball conference in the country.

I want my school(Alabama ) to keep adding to their profits and to increase its growing academic prestige. Apparently having UNC and UVA could help that- according to most that are actually making these decisions.
Profit margin, yes. But I think it's complete bullshite to think our academics will improve because we are adding two of the better public schools to an athletic conference. They will improve the way they have been over the last decade or so: decision and emphasis on doing so by the administration.
The gold standard for any school is membership in the AAU, esp amongst public schools. The AAU is basically a giant frat that you need to be sponsored in order to gain membership. The more sponsors and the more influential those sponsors are the better chance you have of being elected.
Up until this year the SEC had only 2 AAU schools which simply wasn't enough to help the others gain membership in spite of being academically stronger than many AAU members. Now it has 4 AAU schools plus an additional Southern school (Georgia Tech) is now in the AAU. North Carolina and UVA are not only AAU schools they are VERY prestigious AAU schools with tremendous influence as they are seen as Top 5 Public schools. If you get those 2 along with the other 4 SEC AAU members sponsoring UGA (which is also helped by GTech), Bama, and Auburn and they all have a real shot at membership.
Now if you are a fan and didn't go to those schools you may not care but if you went to one of those schools you are a fool not to. AAU membership makes your degree suddenly from a "Tier 1" University and greatly enhances the national perception of your school. If the SEC goes to 6 or 8 AAU members it will also help the reputation of the rest by association. It will make it at least possible for the other schools to work toward AAU membership because the dominance of the Northeastern and Midwestern schools will be greatly diminished.
So yes, it's a big freaking deal if the SEC could manage to get at least one of UNC/UVA and if it pulled off both it changes the entire landscape of the academic reputation of the SEC. As a kicker both schools are very capable of fielding quality football teams should they choose to and they both already have well balanced AD's. UNC and UVA are the Flagship schools from the 10th and 12th largest states in the country and they both have a lot of wealthy alumni and large endowments. If you can add them you do so and don't look back.

No one is saying they are a good "partner" in a conference. We don't give a frick about that.
You are called you out for not wanting them in our conference because they may poach recruits

Really? We want to keep our advantage over our arch rival? How shocking

My Picks would be Texas and Oklahoma. Then Bama and Auburn would move East and Mizzou to the west.
Wow, here's what the SOUTHEASTERN Conference, West Division would look like:
Arkansas
Missouri
Texas A&M
Texas
Oklahoma
LSU
Ole Miss
and State
Why don't you just say you want to kick LSU out of the SEC?

Texas and Florida are much, much larger states with much more talent than the state of Alabama.
Yet, the University of Alabama shares its relatively small state with another big time SEC football program.
And despite that, Alabama has won 3 out of the last 4 national championships.
So quit being a pussy.

The fact that 4 major universities left to get away from UTx should tell you all you need to know about how good of a conference "partner" they are.
Or maybe those 4 major universities were just jealous and/or scared?

I just hate the idea of adding any Texas School to the SEC. I think it is stupid we are letting all these non-southern teams in the SEC.

Look at the recruiting rankings. They speak for themselves

We abandoned this when we let mizzou in

So your saying if UTx was in the SEC, you wouldn't be able to out recruit them?

You can go ahead and add Texas A&M and maybe even Arkansas to that list.

East Texas is southern and a strong case can be made for Arkansas.
Mizzou on the other hand is yankee as frick and doesn't deserve those three letters on their chest
