I'm sure the fact that the state of Alabama's public education system is fricking awful is helping with offering more OOS students.

Alabama kids are ok, but the kids from California, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Wisconsin, etc. provide a great student mix and give those home grown AL kids a taste of what it's like outside the South.
You see this especially in the honors college. It really does give you a view of everyone's culture which is nice to see during the college years.

That retarded former Chancellor, Martin, basically dropped all of LSU's academic entrance requirements to inflate the number of students on campus. His theory was that if LSU had more students, the legislature would have to budget more money for the school.
Boy did he underestimate Jindal's ability (and that of his cronies) to severely f*ck over LA higher education for the sake of political posturing.

Smaller percentage of the population than most SEC schools. The metro areas of San Antonio, Austin, Houston and DFW are more populated than the entire population of Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi combined.
In fact, whether these schools want to admit it or not, the rest of the SEC West is littered with Texas high school graduates not qualified enough to get in to A&M. It's simply the truth of the matter.

Look at the average ACT comparisons between the two - LSU (26) & A&M (27). I have MANY friends who were accepted to A&M.

I don't know anyone here who even took the ACT. Most only SAT

quote:Exactly! I've got a freshman at UA and I love the fact that she gets exposed to a wide mix of fellow students and their culture, views and way of living and how it contrasts with our Alabama ways.

I've got nothing against Alabama, I was born, raised, and have lived here my whole life. But I'm happy my kid gets a greater opportunity to see a wide spectrum of kids from all over the U.S. It makes you appreciate some of our "Southern" ways and it makes you see that our state is way behind and backward in many other areas.
