IMO the East was the better division in 2012.

Because the league office and ESPN wanted to have the ability to monkey with the schedules to make more $$$$. Hence, for now, UK and Florida play each other twice a year (to the disadvantage of both). Normally, the 5 teams that UK plays home and away are the more competitive teams for TV ratings. As power shifts around the league, the league office can just adjust schedules accordingly.

We abandoned divisions in MBB because UK, UF, Vandy, and UT didn't want to be forced to play each other twice every year. The top of the SECE was stronger than the top of the SECW.

If we used that same logic in fball, we should abolish divisions there as well.
