I think we are a year away (maybe 2) from the SEC being a good basketball conference, but the improvement and trajectory are apparent to me.

I agree. I really hope Johnny at least makes it to the Sweet 16 with this team. If he doesn't make the tourney i doubt any other talents like Simmons and Blakeney will sniff LSU, but if he makes a run it could seriously open up the door for him. He is a great recruiter just needs to prove he can win with talent. Gonna be a very interesting year for him. I'm not fire the coach guy but if you don't make the tourney with the top 1 or 2 player in the country you will never be relevant.

So far I would rank the top of the conference like this.

1. Kentucky

2.Vandy
3. A&M
4. Florida

5. USCe

LSU has the talent to join and pass some in that top group if they can overcome the JJ curse.

How do I get on the AU board to discuss basketball? I filled out the form a few days ago, but still can't post.

If I do that, I won't have anything to keep me warm at night.

Simmons is a stud, but didn't North Florida have two guys put up 30? Sounds like nobody was playing defense in that one.

He's not Lebron, but he's going to be a handful at the next level. I suspect he'll be an NBA top-10 player pretty quickly.

Mizzou is much better and still not very good...but they've got 3 shots coming up at Power 5 non-conference wins so hopefully they get at least one (no chance in hell at Arizona but have NCState at home and Illinois in St. Louis).

Vandy is pretty dang good. Only lost once so far to Kansas and were leading at the half. Damian Jones can be one of the most dominant players in the conference but they don't force it to him if and try to remain balanced based on what the defense gives them. They have 2 legit 7 footers in their starting lineup so their interior defense is probably the best in the conference.

Can't spell Suckfest without SEC.

SEC basketball will be much better this year than in recent years, top to bottom.

So stop with the negative vibes.

This is by far the best defensive team of Stallings career. Still early obviously but Vandy is holding opponents to 33.8% from the field which is 3rd in the nation right now behind Oklahoma & an upcoming opponent Purdue. Detroit was averaging 96 ppg last night and struggled to manage 52, you could tell in the 2nd half they were very intimidated when they had the ball down low. Shots that weren't blocked were altered dramatically by all the pressure of our posts.

I didn't go back to see what that posters favorite team is, but I'm willing to bet they suck.
