Florida cant hit, and neither can ole miss. both teams have an elite pitching staff. one glaring difference is that the gators have only given up 14 home runs all season, while ole miss has given up 34. in spite of this, the Rebels still have a lower ERA than florida. ole miss further balances that out by hitting 42 homeruns to floridas 31...its gonna be a great series this weekend and a lot of fun. good luck to both teams.

I am going to call it now. Alabama takes the series against Auburn.

don't really understand how Auburn's RPI is so low even though we've won series over 3 of the 5 teams rated ahead of us.

Who you beat is not important for RPI. All RPI cares about is if you won, where you played and your total SOS

Auburn's SOS is 32nd, 4 of the 5 teams you mentioned have SOS in the top 16 (Arkansas' is 43) so that probably has something to do with it. Of course the RPI margin between Auburn-State-Arkansas is slim anyway.

The biggest difference in Arkansas and Auburn's RPI rating...While Arkansas has a 43 SOS compared to Auburn's 32, Arkansas went on the road and played (42)La Tech in a two game series, (13)Arizona, (44)Nebraska, (53)Oklahoma State in a pre-season tourney, and hosted (48)Rhode Island for a 3 game set prior to league play starting.

You've gotta have a mix of neutral site and home series. Losses away from home only count as like 0.6/0.7 in the RPI matrix. Away from home wins count as 1.2/1.3 wins. Then there is also a booster for it being OOC.

Either way, Auburn will be fine if they take care of business like they have been, but that is just a little more of an explanation on why Auburn's RPI is so low compared to other teams around the league. Even with a sweep this weekend, their RPI is likely to be in the 20's because of playing Alabama.

I didn't realize Baseball has some bonus points that change how RPI is calculated.

Hawgeye was right.
GenesChin was wrong.

ETA: I post how RPI is calculated on the reg for people so everyone can finally figure out wtf is going on. Here is the Road/Neutral/Home game multiplier explanation

Come on Bama and A&M

We absolutely have to win our series, a sweep would be fantastic. Would put us back on track for 20-10, granted we would have 2 of the 3 best teams in the league left to play, but still we would be on pace.

I think you're mistaken. Bonus points are added for beating good teams on the road and bonus points are taken away for losing to bad teams at home. I don't recall where the RPI cutoff is.

What arbitrary time period are you using for lately?

You may be right. I don't really pay attention to OM.

I didn't realize they did that for baseball, they don't for basketball which is where I normally talk RPI. I'll correct the above (Hawgeye, sorry brochacho)

According to Wiki

quote:

Bonus points are awarded for beating top-75 non-conference opponents on the road and penalty points are given for losing to bottom-75 non-conference opponents at home. Bonuses and penalties are on a sliding scale, separated into groups of 25, with the top bonus for a road win against a top-25 team and the worst penalty for a home loss to a bottom-25 opponent.

Looking to change this bonus point system according to Wiki though

perhaps I should have said "held our own" with Florida. I acknowledge the elite quality of Florida Gator baseball, and I am making a sincere effort not to engage in the shite talk that permeates this board. forgive me if I insulted anyone by also acknowledging the potential of this young Rebel squad. I'm looking forward to a great series in Gainesville. ~posted with respect~

Actually, I think you're right. After reading wiki it looks like they did away with the bonus system when they changed the RPI.

This adjustment replaces the current system of bonuses or penalties that teams receive.

As is required when responding to Gators fans. Good job.

Do not get upset. It was tongue in cheek. I respect the OM struggle too much to talk too much ish to OM fans usually.
