USC is such a coveted position. Their last hire was a home run

LSU thinks much higher of themselves than anyone else.

It's in an odd locale that won't entice many.

They are paired with a monster in the SEC West.

They will certainly look back on firing miles in a few years with regret and sadness

Not to guys on sirius radio. Notre Dame is coaching graveyard, and so is USC. Texas maybe if u can deal with their alumni. Most guys that do college football for living have been saying best job that will likely open all year due to huge recruiting edge, being in SEC West etc.

There are more schools ahead of LSU than there are coaches worth making the big time hire on

LSU regressing to their mean of average seasons

Which could have been a smart move on LSU's part.

Notre Dame is a joke until they join a conference with the new playoff system

ND is, but they are generally picky about their hires.

USC is conditional. It' depends on the coach. They don't always pay huge money, they don't have a great stadium, and the facilities are lacking. They definitely have the history, and if you win there, it's a big deal, as Carrol proved. But if you don't, you are an afterthought. Just look at their last few hires. They didn't even attempt any big splashes. They stuck to USC guys. It all depends on how much the candidate values history and conference.

Texas would obviously be a bigger opening, but I don't think that's happening this year.
