Yes, it is by design. It is also the base defense, which I noted before. They didn't do it special for LSU.

I never once said it wasn't Bama's base D. I commented on what I saw in the game, which was DBs committed to stopping the run more so than the pass.

Bama's front did a great job of getting Fournette's feet stopped and the LBs and other pursuers did a great job of getting him on the ground when the front hadn't already taken care of it.

Well they weren't just going to cover receivers that didn't exist.

Then I'm confused as to your point. An article says Alabama didn't stack the box, which they didn't. You say article is bullshite. Alabama played their base defense, so there is some sort of disconnect here.

Here is a good breakdown on Alabama's run defense.

"Bama never sold out to stop the run."

Just because you don't stack the box doesn't mean you didn't sell out to stop the run....

That's what I was calling bullshite.

"Selling out" implies overcompensating guys knowing that you are leaving wide receivers either running free or running in favorable matchups downfield. We really only did that once or twice, and one of the times you hit us for a touchdown.

The only thing that happened was Nick Saban challenged his DL and LB for 2 weeks. Telling them no one thinks they can stop LF. Telling them LSU OL is supposed to be the best in the SEC. Then those DL and LB's came out and every single one of them played to their potential. It's really not too hard to understand. Nick has recruited the best front 7 for 4 or 5 years in a row and now he can play any of them without any change in performance. The only problem Bama has had was getting all those guys motivated at the same time. Unfortunately we have the exact type of offense Nick Saban has built his defense to beat. No team is going to line up and run at those guys and be successful. The only chance it to spread them out, try to keep them guessing, and get a lot of turnovers, or what Ole Miss did.

That picture up there was the story of the night. I had never before seen a game where a defense not only didn't really miss any tackles...but didn't miss a single gap. GOAT!
