quote:NCAA seems to have undergone a fundamental change since that time. They are more likely to slap the wrist of the school and institute a show cause against an offending coach these days.
We almost got the death penalty in 2002-2003 when Franchionie was our coach because of events that happened under Mike DuBose in 1999.
No idea the severity of whatever Ole Miss is being accused of, but I do know that the NCAA does not give two shats if the people who committed the violations are still in charge or not.
The involvement of multiple sports though, likely brings lack of institutional control into play.

No doubt the timing absolutely sucks and for that matter seems orchestrated, but just so all you know, we have self sanctioned Women's Basketball, Track & Field, and Football for minor violations.
And believe me, there is a an open book narrative that is being shared freely with all the recruits. Keep believing and GFY.

like an institutional problem rather than a single coach's decision to bend the rules.
This is exactly the point. The coaches aren't the ones coming up with this stuff. It's boosters, alums, etc. so they don't stop when a coach or coaches leave. That just happens to be the time period where they got caught. Nutt wasn't doing it. But it was being done while he was there. You think it stopped suddenly. Helllllllll no. That's why they still punish the university.

I will say this, once again Pat Forde has proven himself the clickbait king. If you said "Ole Miss women's basketball is about to get the hammer dropped nobody in America would have read it. Instead he knows perfectly well that almost none of this has anything to do with Freeze but half of what he wrote is about Ole Miss and its recent recruiting success and the pictures he put up are of football helmets. A wonderful journalist.

Those pictures would have more impact if they were from a fan of literally any other team in the SEC West but Arkansas.

I'm still pissed that we got hammered over some bullshite about players getting textbooks THAT TO BE RETURNED AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER for their friends and now the NCAA doesn't do shite to anyone for anything. If we ever get another NCAA penalty, I may go Updyke on them.

Thanks!
the NCAA has investigated Ole Miss before with nothing coming of it. Have they ever got this far before?

I'm not sure. The cheating we know they are doing is too tough to track so they aren't going to get hit hard in football.
