He didn't say anything.

I would say he delivered his intended message in a way that wasn't "in your face" and allowed for space of different opinions. We need more of that kind of communication in this country right now. Unfortunately, lately it's more like "this is how I feel. why can't you just respect how I feel you hate monger!" all while missing that it's ok for the other person to have a different opinion.

Just because he didn't issue a flaming hot take doesn't mean he skirted the issue.

His answer was Bill Clinton like. You don't have to have
a "flaming hot take" to take one side or the other in the controversy and you can say it with respect to the other side.

If I had to guess, he's probably more in the middle, moderate/libertarian

In Alabama, they call that a "liberal democrat".

Why does he have to take sides?

Not everyone jumps to take a side on every controversy that pops up.

He pretended to not know that a Presidential election had just occurred the day before. He'll say anything to avoid distracting the team

This is what bothers me the most about the current state of affairs in the country. It should be perfectly fine if you don't care about an issue. For instance, I do not care about guys taking knees during the anthem. I do not care about statues. I don't care about what Kanye West's opinion is.

That doesn't inherently mean I'm against you. It doesn't necessarily mean I need the situation explained to me (and inevitably your opinion forced upon me). I simply DO NOT CARE.

I imagine the vast majority of people in the country are in the same boat. Either too uniformed or too disinterested to construct a rational opinion about every single issue that makes the news. And not only that, but it's always got to be binary, one side or the other.

But because of social media, there are so many people who feel the need to make an opinion the moment any single issue comes up. They take sides and their entire identity is based around the sides they take on these sociopolitical issues. Have you ever noticed that the people who are the most vocal on social media are suddenly experts in every single field? They know enough about trade policy, race relations, child raising, gun ownership, health care policy, immigration, national security, etc. to not only make a well-informed opinion on the matter, but to do so in a matter of mere seconds.

Amen brother. And not only do they form a snap opinion, they vehemently defend that opinion and label anyone who questions that opinion as an enemy.

Social media is the devil

Saban ain't touching that. He either alienates fans, boosters and sponsors, or he alienates some players and recruits.

He is a "whatever helps me keep recruiting 5-stars to Alabama." He's practical like that.
