The terms are often used interchangeably. In fact, they both fall under the umbrella of what is now diagnosed as Antisocial Personality Disorder. Both have issues making interpersonal relationships. And it is difficult or impossible for them to feel empathy.
The biggest difference is that a sociopath has a smidge more of a conscience than a psychopath. And sociopaths are prone to have volatile tempers, while psychopaths do not.
So, you're both right. And you're just choosing to be a prick.

Sociopaths form connections for manipulation purposes.
Saying a person lacks emotion or empathy but will connect to a person or group makes zero sense. which is what that article did.
ETA: Sociopaths are psychopaths, if you want to get technical. They are classified by not having any morals or empathy.
He's just making shite up. We can each find random articles to support our opinions.
