for all college baseball fans or those that pretend to be (like most 'Bama fans) who thought everything people tried to tell them about Mitch Gaspard was just an "excuse" or not winning like Vandy/LSU.

He makes a lot of good points regarding the issues in college baseball.

Miss State would have beaten Arizona if Louisiana didn't have TOPS.

That was pretty cool. Women's sports and football have it so much better.

No. If you care you can listen. BTW, it shows some of the reasons Auburn struggles in baseball relative to most rivals.

The 11.7 rule is overblown. There's no doubt that surrounding states adding lottery scholarships have eroded what Alabama baseball once was, but it's not the sole reason. If the academic support is there to fill some of the void, a consistent winner can be fielded.

Until recently, a lack of facility updates had as much to do with Alabama's problems as anything. We lost several high profile prospects who signed elsewhere because of our facilities severely lacking. That's been remedied. Now a resourceful coach is needed that can work with academia to overcome the 11.7.

Our shitty facilities only made the problem worse. But to pretend Vanderbilt/Stanford and company and even Florida, Georgia, and State/Ole Miss don't have an advantage is just being willfully ignorant.

Polk is right. he is tireless in putting college baseball on the map and being treated fairly. title 9 (?) ruined the sport (and other men's sports). these kids deserve a full schollie every bit as much as football, basketball and ANY women's sport. the woman's rowing team gets a full ride.

and yes, he's right about some schools being able to "stretch" the 11.7 schollie limit by offering schollies that ALL students get.

I never said they didn't have an advantage. But even having those advantages doesn't mean they are going to win consistently. Still takes coaching.

Yes to be clear---no school (LSU/Vandy/UGA/etc) is doing anything illegal. The rules are inherently unfair.

Such wouldn't last 30 min in football but has been going on for 30+ years in baseball.

I am not going to listen to whole thing but if his complaints are about scholly limits or tops, then that's just bitter whinning.
LSU was the dominant team in the country before tops was even in existence. The scholly limits are equitable for all. Bertman built best program in the game and had no inherent advantages outside of being smarter than everyone else.
Polk had best facilities in country years ago and never won a ring. He failed to get over the hump and is just jealous of others. Instead of making excuses, you should just field a better team and win more than others do.

Polk started ranting against TOPS when Skip started beating his arse. And he's not stopped. I think it is fair to say that Skip knows at least as much about college baseball & any of it's perceived ills, but he keeps his mouth shut, especially in comparison to Polk. The only thing Skip consistently talks about is the need to bring in the fences in Omaha & he's said that from day one of the new park. He's said that with the location of the stadium in relation to the prevailing winds, Omaha will never be fair to collegiate hitters unless/until the fences are moved in. Polk whines about everything.

The best state funded scholarship program is the HOPE in Georgia. Why isn't UGA a top program if Polk's ideas are accurate?

Note: not all instate LSU Baseball players qualified for TOPS. It is not an automatic scholarship. You have to qualify for it.

Love Polk or hate him, that man despises the NCAA with the fervor of a thousand fires.
