All you have to do is drive from Lucedale to Mobile or Starkville to Tuscaloosa.

Eh.. you're right there. 98 in MS is great because it's 4 lane. Once you hit the Bama line it turns to crap. They have been saying for 15 years they are going to 4 lane it Semmes but it will probably never be done.

Absolutely this. Alabama has the absolute worst roads of any Southern State. For example, drive from Mobile to Memphis. In Alabama, highway 45 is single lane and goes through several shithole small towns where you have to get around the dumbass redneck locals and stop at 3 or 4 stop lights in each town. When you cross the state line into MS it turns into 4-lane, they bypassed all the small shite towns and there may be 2 or 3 stop lights all the way through the state. In Alabama if it's not an interstate, it is a shitty road. Gump and Barn land is poor. The state of Alabama is broke or still damn close to it.

Have to disagree here. 45 in Bama was just repaved all the way to MS and it is great now. It is 2 lane but there are plenty of places to pass and a few spots even have 3 lanes to pass.

Since the comparison with Mississippi is being continually brought up:

Alabama - 1.6 billion state, .9 billion local

Mississippi - .9 billion state, .7 billion local

A lot of this is federal oversight, and based on need, population, etc. Plus what is actually on each state system. Not all states are the same. But interesting nevertheless.

I don't know if it's still this bad, but the first time I drove on I-20 to Georgia, I must have pulled off the road 2-3 times to just to make sure I didn't have a flat.

I've actually done this too. On my way into Tuscaloosa on I-20 with all the construction/holes in the road, I swore I had a flat. Scared the shite out of me.

Worse roads are in Mexico and Texas

Never crossed a road in the deep south covered in sand, tumble weeds rolling across, and illegals crossing them. Texas roads are like obstacle courses.
