Franklin?

So you want the Penn State coach who can't beat Ohio State or win the SEC East?

Why , so he can come to LSU and not beat Alabama and not win the SEC West?

The first choice should be Fickell, although I don't think he would accept the job.

James Franklin won 9 games. At Vanderbilt. Twice.

Maybe tie biggest accomplishment in modern coaching history.

And judging by the downvotes, LSU fans don’t want him. Lol

If you want a great coach that recruits well, the players love, and will add "adversity" to LSU

Look no further than A&M's, coach Price

A lot of folks from LSU said the same thing about a certain head coach at Michigan State about twenty years ago.
I was not one of those. I loved the hire when it happened- mist I think like it but were not over joyed. I was really happy we hire Savanna when we did. Of course I had no idea he’d turn out nearly as good as he did.

Oh my God, can you imagine what the threads on the Rant would be like if a Black coach went on a losing streak?

No worse than when Sumlin was shitting the bed on a consistent basis.

Jimbo’s contract is unrealistic and ignorant, but there it is.

I’d throw an offer at Kellen Moore. Just make him say no.

These guys are at the top of the list in my opinion.

I heard on the "ESPN, tDRIVE!: Mel Tucker has been the name for the "minority"
Interview.. I know it sounded bad to me, also. But, the man should get hired on his merits alone.

But, either way, it's a win win situation if the Administration goes with Mel Tucker. The man fits the minority responsibility and requirements as is the law..
Plus, he's one fine damn football coach and even better person.. Discipline will be strictly enforced and encouraged! And that's over half the battle.. his knowledge of the NFL won't hurt in recruiting the Nawlins/B.R. L@ Area..

Whatever happens, several coaches are going to use the LSU coaching search to get them a large pay day increase.

Fickell is heavily a Midwest guy. What works up there, where he has his recruiting ties, might not work down on the bayous. I think he's lurking for the Ohio State job... which he would probably be amazing at.

The one truism there is he is most definitely a midwest guy....... but the rest is hogwash... Anyone who can coach, and who also hires very competent assistants, will succeed anywhere he goes, especially after coaching a bunch of 3*'s who play at championship level. He was a really, really good recruiter at Ohio State and most of his many NFL payers were from out of state as OSU is a national brand. He probably won't go to his alma mater because if history is any indication OSU only hires a new coach every 15 years or so.... so, unless Day goes to the NFL (which I doubt), that's not happening.

Definitely lines up well with the early announcement. Fickell wants to finish the season at Cincy but after this year he's done all he can do at that school.

Take away that 1st year at Tampa Bay where he inherited Tony Dungys team and you have a below 500 winning coach, and he is barely a 500 coach right now...... Never thought he was much of an innovator and doubt he can recruit.... plus, his persona has been revealed, and it isn't good.

You are correct but after paying off the current coach the bank might be bare and Gruden looks pretty cheap right now. Besides, if they did get Gruden it would give them 2 years to hire the coach they really wanted like UK did with Billy Clyde and Cal.

Has said in numerous articles that he is very comfortable living on 3.4M and family is most important to him..... He is a different kind of dude who doesn't sell himself to the highest bidder. His wife has said they are not a "moving family" and they are only 90 miles from home. That's not to say that USC AD Mike Bohn (who hired Fickell) at UC won't be a factor.

Shouldn't the guy in the grey shirt / black hat be a candidate?

What about Bill O'Brien? He is currently enrolled in the Nick Saban School for Coaches Who Can't Coach Good.
