Why is FSU any better than VT? Why the frick do you want UNC? Football is king in the SEC.

If VT and FSU are equal, VT is the better choice for TV exposure and $$$ purposes. College football is big business.

You answered your own question.

Brannagin & WildT,

It's not about what I want, it's about the reality. The REALITY is that if this starts up again we will take the best FB team we can get domiciled in Virginia & then the best one in North Carolina. Period. That's about 7mill more TV sets at some dollar amount per month for the Network. Really doesn't matter which school. It could be UVA & Duke in theory although we know it won't be.

Believe me...I'd much rather visit Clemson, Tallahassee, or Atlanta over wherever the hell NCSt is but that ain't going to happen. And I understand why the conf feels that way as well as why SCar, UF, & UGA feel that way. I'd rather have more money and not have to ever ourselves entertain another team from Texas in the SEC.

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said. By "Big Business" I mean the ADs, Slive, and TV execs want compelling matchups on as many TVs as possible. They want as big a footprint as possible for the so-to-be-announced SEC Network. So, yes. Compelling matchups DO MATTER in the business scheme. Look at the Big 12. There is ONE half-way interesting game a year.

Both these factors must be weight when considering adding new members:
1. compelling matchups
2. as many TVs as possible

So, while I agree that FSU is compelling, it does not add the TVs that VT would add. UNC would add the TVs, but not the matchups. Same with NC State, so it's a wash except that UNC has a big following in basketball, and I agree that the football program COULD come around.

Of course, you think I haven't been hearing this since 1992? I'm tired of hearing it. I want to re-focus on what the actual fans want - you know, the consumers.

Meh, not so much.

I don't have to think about any TVs besides the ones in my house when considering what teams I want to see added to the conference.

If you wanted me to guess which teams the conference heads would add, that's a different question.

So let me ask you, who would YOU want to see added to the conference?

I'd say yes to kicking out Kenticky and Missouri frick those Yankees. But Vandy is far from useless. They bring academic credibility. Mississippi State however is the single most useless school in the conference as they suck @ everything and water down an already small state.

Clemson, Florida State, and Tech I say no to those frickers as well. Especially Tech. I do not want them back in the conference to potentially take away anything from Georgia. And if that means us, Florida, and USC-e forming a pact to not vote in duplicates from the other states then so be it.

Who we do need to invite is UNC, a Virginia school preferably Virginia but if they are set on going to the B1G they Va Tech is ok. Finally we should add Duke for both more academics and to entice UNC to come, and Texas because they are the premier program of there state and there are a ton more Longhorn fans than there are Aggie fans. Hell I'd bet there are more Longhorn fans alive right now than there are Aggie fans alive and dead over the past 25 years.
And for the final spot either add Oklahoma or add Texas Tech. Either would be preferable for the final spot than the 3 we should kick out of the conference.

To sum up my long post - Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Missouri.

+ Duke, North Carolina, and Texas. And either Virginia or Virginia Tech. And either Oklahoma or Texas Tech.

Wow, you really have no idea about the State of Texas do you? Texas has 450k living alumni, A&M has 375k. Only A&M is now bigger than Texas and growing while Texas wants to slightly decrease the size of their school. In 20 years A&M will likely surpass Texas in alumni, maybe less. The TShirt fans just follow who is winning. In the '60's and '70s that was Texas. In the mid '80s until the mid '90s it was A&M. In the '00s it was Texas. Right now it is definitely A&M. Both schools are Flagships that have massive amounts of money and power and A&M is currently far more politically powerful than Texas.

Where you really lose ALL credibility is when you bring up Tech. Tech? Seriously? Tech would have the worst academics in the SEC. It also sucks at everything now. Right before A&M left the Big 12 we lost a Tennis match to Tech. They were thrilled because it ended a streak of over 1100 days in 17 sports that they had not beaten us in anything. They are way out in West Texas, over 300 miles away from Fort Worth (the closest media market that matters) in the dusty abyss of Lubbock. They have no money. They have crappy fan support and can't even sell out their small stadium with $99 season tickets. They have fans that literally take pride in being rude and unpleasant to guests. They don't even have Mike Leach there anymore to give them some character. South Florida is a lot better add than Texas Tech.

Adding UNC and Duke would give the SEC Basketball Brand a huge boost along with not making the football gauntlet that much tougher. Its a win-win.

I think its a no brainer. The SEC would dominate both college football and basketball. That brand improvement is worth getting two programs from the same market.

Unless you feel you're (Bama) to the point where you'd take a pay cut to get Duke on your hoops schedule then you're wrong about it being worth it. Football TV dollars>>>>>>Hoops TV dollars.

Alumni does not necessarily a fan make. I went to Georgia Tech. I still hope there sports teams fail hard and lose to everyone. I grew up a Dawg fan and despite going there remain a fan. (seriously frick Tech)
Similarly I have a friend who went to Florida State. He could care less about them and instead only pulls for Georgia. And I'm certain this is not that uncommon.

And yeah I'm not a big fan of adding Texas Tech either. Only brought them (and Oklahoma) up as bait to maybe lure Texas similar to needing Duke for UNC.

Who I WANT verse who we SHOULD add? Well, I want what keeps the SEC the badassedest conference evahhh. The teams that I WANT in the SEC are already here. The TV markets that KEEP the SEC head-and-shoulders above the rest is all that matters to me. The SEC already dominates recruiting. Just imagine getting the NC and Virginia markets. Every NON-SEC team would be second rate. It would be an impenetrable monopoly.

I wouldn't mind seeing VT, FSU, Miami, and GT, but not just to add them.

frick Florida State.

Would rather have UNC/Duke.

Or Virginia Tech/Oklahoma.

Would prefer option 2 above because we need another western team so we can get busy with the intra-SEC realignment.

1. Vanderbilt is pulling their weight in all sports but basketball right now.

2. (and this is the most important factor) You must have at least one private school in a major conference or any correspondence going in and out of the conference offices are subjected to FOIA. Private schools are exempt from FOIA.

I will jizz everywhere. The rest of the conferences should shut down if we get those two.
