Maybe so but not long ago a British Co. owned one of the major Kentucky bourbon brands. I don't remember which one or whether it was makers mark or something else.

Speaking of which... it's time to bring back the Keg. It survived Prohibition and we've both respected those who died in an unrelated event long enough. It just makes sense for UT-UK to battle over a keg. Screw MADD.

Shouldn't it be the Battle for the Cask?

While this is true (for the most part) for those of French ancestry living in central and western South Louisiana, it doesn't apply to New Orleans. The French Creoles in New Orleans wanted nothing to do with the Acadians.

Outside of any state with beach front property, East TN is one of the nicest areas in the south. Especially for someone who enjoys the outdoors.

And this is coming from somebody from Southern California, which shits all over Florida.

Or barrel. Both would work. Now that kegs are associated with those shiny metal things beer comes in I could support a name change but people still use the term keg for a wooden barrel used to make whiskey or bourbon. Keg is basically a measuring unit or more generically a term that means 'small barrel' that's become associated with those silver beer things.

You've got me thinking though... I wonder at what point keg became synonymous with shiny metal beer barrels? I'm guessing the pony keg and other beer kegs people pick up for frat and other parties had something to with it. So sometime after WWII maybe? If anyone knows I'd love to hear the explanation.

Yep, right down the road from me within walking distance here in Huntsville.

Also, if anyone is in Huntsville and has $75 per person to throw down, check out Cotton Row.

I would add that Florida has the highest percentage of educated residents also.

Meh, Huntsville has the highest per capita engineers, tops out concentration of PhDs, and has one of the top median incomes in the southeast. I'm close to kayaking/hiking/climbing, central to Nashville/Bham/Chattanooga and Memphis/ATL, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better set up road system.. I enjoy the quality of life here in lowly Alabama.

I don't blame you for loving it there. While I'll pick at Bammer for being Bammer in good fun the state is better than it's PR. Sure there are issues but we all have them even if they're in different areas. Besides we all, ALL of us, get bashed enough for our failings that we really don't need to add to it (except in jest and maybe Mississippi - I kid guys).

Of course, I've known so many Bammers who moved to Tenner that I sometimes joke that Alabamians can't wait to leave the state but only with people I know who know I'm joking.

Truth be told there's great places to live in every state both in and outside the South just like there are lousy places to live in every state.

Given the Krispy Kreme jokes, I think this adds to our awesomeness:

My money says Fulmer came up with this idea. Shout out to a legend.

Yeah, I like the Huntsville area and on down to the Tennessee River. Once you go south of the river, Alabama goes downhill fast.

And as I said before, the food there is seasoned according to the tastes of the locals. Not as it would be if the same restaurant, owned by the same people, was located in Louisiana.

Tolerance for spice, and even an awareness of spice differ greatly on a state-by-state basis. What I find acceptable, even desirable, would typically be too spicy for someone not Louisiana-born and bred.

So the people who own that restaurant cater to who their clientele are, and keep their tastes and preferences in mind as they prepare their dishes. Otherwise, they'd probably go out of business.

I've been invariably disappointed with Louisiana-themed restaurants in other states. To the point I prefer to try the regional dishes of the state I'm in, reasoning that these dishes would be unique to the area, and thus not likely to disappoint me.

They should just call it the Battle for the Barrel. That would avoid any alcohol reference and keep everyone happy

Yep. I've never quite understood the "my state is better than yours" battles. It's all relative to the person. I find the OP to be totally off-base, but that's in terms of my preference.
