Been to the Hump a few times (many years ago) and I liked it.

But I was comparing it to early 2000s Stegman so my standards were and still are very low.

That's not a knock on State, that's a knock on UGA.

UGA, Bama, and Vandy clearly the bottom 3. Not sure of the order though.

Auburn and Ole Miss probably the nicest, certainly the newest.

They've honestly made some tremendous improvements around Colonial Life Arena at SC.

Because a refurbished livestock arena that looks like the inside of an egg makes a great basketball venue.

Can't wait to see all those trees mature. That is a pretty nice setting there.

When they leave Coleman, most of us will lose our season tickets so I hope they stay a bit.

Hint: I poor without saying it.

If I were ranking the 3 or 4 worst not in any order I'd go

Coleman Coliseum-Bama
PMAC-LSU
Stegmann-UGA
Memorial-Vandy

all need serious upgrades or a new arena.

CLA is fine, but it was deliberately built as a generic arena

Pretty sure CLA is a smaller version of The Bud. I believe if memory serves me correctly, South Carolina people made several trips to Fayetteville for plan ideas, etc. After CLA was built, it is nearly a mirror image of The Bud.

Nah. MSU’s Humphrey Coliseum is firmly in the bottom 2.

How many times has that happened? A whole once? It’s really not that bad, except for the aforementioned dimness and student seating location. People hop on this “Coleman is a dump” train without knowing what they’re talking about. Yeah, it’s a relative dump compared to the 2-3 brand new arenas in the league. It’s not a relative dump compared to most of the rest of the country, including several in the SEC.
Yeah lights cutting out in the biggest game of the year, on a national stage is pretty awful.

I thought most Bama fans concede this fact? Yeah, the concourse area and concessions are better, but the place is still a terrible place to watch a basketball game. Even the TV broadcast feels off there.

If UGA's isn't last, then something has happened in the last few years to change things.

Stegman was a dump 25 years ago when I was in Athens. It's a rodeo venue that gets used for basketball when the rodeo isn't in town.

I've been in Memorial Gym for a few games. Bama is rated too high.

The Pavilion does look super nice. Similar to Neville Arena but nicer looking.

Definitely offers some advantages. Much like Vandy, shooting in a cavern is going to give the home team an advantage.

Rupp Arena is not imposing at all. I hate to say it but it's true.

Carolina Coliseum >>> Colonial Life Arena. CLA is fine, but it was deliberately built as a generic arena to host all kinds of events aside from basketball. It only sells out (~18,000) when SC is good which of course has been few and far between. So even if you have an okay crowd of like 10k, it still feels cavernous. The Coliseum was a proper college basketball arena. No upper deck, just 12,000 steep-arse seats where the fans were right on top of you.

I remember well when the Carolina Coliseum was built. Across from Gibbs Volkswagen, it was immediately known as "The House that Frank Built" in honor of Frank McGuire. When we were still playing basketball there it was simply known as The Frank. When I was in college, right after it was built, we used-to camp out around it for first come, first served, tickets ... 1000s of us students. Those were the days under Frank.

When it was built, designed, Coach McGuire insisted it have 12,501 seating capacity ... alterations had to me made. Why? Because he hated NC State so badly, and their arena held 12,500 .... ours had to be bigger.

I loved Coach, he was a great man. Paul Dietzel and he were such great friends irl in those days. Two great men. Then you add Bobby Richardson and later Jim Carlin, et al ... good times.

Little known fact. The same architects that designed Bud Walton designed the CLA. When we visted all the various "best arenas" at the time, Mike (McGee) liked Bud Walton the best. Ford, in Ann Arbor, was his second favorite. The CLA is almost identical to Bud Walton.

The CLA was sold out last night ... but there were some empty seats. TV timing screws things up these days. Matter of fact, I hear as of this morning, the remaining home games are all sold out.
