Alabama is obviously better than Mississippi in every way, but it's not that surprising. Outsiders, who won't make a point to ever visit either, probably view Mississippi as dumb pretty girls and magnolias, and they view Alabama as hostile rednecks.
I don't know why Pennsylvania is ranked so highly, I just assumed everyone hated it.

Alabama is better in most areas, but would be #2 in musical heritage and at a dead heat in good looking women.

People are dumb. Alabama is way too low. I've lived here for 7 years and it's a beautiful state.

I have a hard time believing Kansas is in the 30s. Have these people who were polled ever been to Kansas?

I agree. Only dumb liberals from the north would have Alabama that low. Northern libs are among the dumbest population in the Western world.

Kansas actually has some really nice people and good looking women, but for it to be above Alabama or even Mississippi is fricking crazy.

I have lived across the South in my life, military family and all. I currently live in Arkansas. I may poke fun at Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, and yes, God help me, even Louisiana but I've spent time in all of those states and I have yet to meet better people.
I have also lived outside the South in my life. I would rather move to the worst Swamparse, snake infested, mosquito as the state bird, swamp in the South then live in most states in the Union.
The people are better here.

Other than Memphis and parts of Nashville, Tennessee is pretty damn white compared to most Southern states.

I understand how survey's work and all but I find it hard to believe you can keep bias out of a survey like this. damn few in this country (percentage wise) have ever been to Hawaii or Alabama.
and really now, other than Tuscaloosa, Alabama is a pretty decent state.
