Rank the SEC states in order of where you would most like to live
by LSUTigers9458

I agree, I lived in Prairieville and Mandeville before moving to The Woodlands and Louisiana as much as I love my home stats, doesn't even begin to hold a candle at the quality of life and living in Texas.

That's a pretty fricking blanket statement...

Depends on where in Texas and where in Louisiana.
There are bad places and great places in both...

There are bad parts of Houston, Dallas and San Antonio just like their are bad parts of cities anywhere else in the country......

So what is your point Metry? I just named arguably the best two places to live in Louisiana and compared it to a top 5 place in Texas to live.

How is that a blanket statement?

1. Arkansas (NWA)
2. Georgia (Atlanta)
3. Texas (Austin)
4. Florida (Miami)
5. South Carolina (Charleston)
6. Louisiana (New Orleans)
7. Tennessee (Nashville)
8. Kentucky (not sure... is Lexington or Louisville better?)
9. Alabama (Birmingham? I have no idea)
10. Mississippi (Gulfport/Biloxi) - I actually lived here for 7 months and it wasn't bad. The food was great. But it's just not for me, ultimately. I like city life.

edit: Atlanta, Austin, and Miami are all pretty interchangeable for me. I'd only move if I could find a better job than the one I have now in NYC, so it would depend on the offer. But I'd be happy to live in any of the top 7 places I listed. After that, I'm not sure.

1. Louisiana: easily the best food. New Orleans is awesome, and so is Lafayette. So much to do out on the water.
2. Tennessee: this state has a ton of variety from bar hopping in Nashville to secluded Mountain retreats. Also, Memphis is a home away from home for my family due to my brother's stint at St. Jude.
3. Florida: there is so much to hate about this state, but there's even more to love. Warm weather, gators, and shite tons of beaches. What more do you really need? So what if there are tons of crazy people? It's a big state with a lot to explore.
4. Texas: It's a massive state, so like Florida, there's a ton to explore. Houston is an abortion, as is Dallas, but Austin is incredible. Texas really is like a whole 'nother country.
5. Alabama: The Grand Hotel in Point Clear is the single most powerful mechanism in this poll. It nearly single-handedly kept Alabama in the top half. Huntsville is also beautiful. The people, atmosphere, and tailgating at Auburn are glorious as well. While much of the rest of the state is a dump, I could be very happy living in Huntsville or near the coast.
6. Mississippi: Probably way overranked in this list, but I love the Mississippi Gulf Coast, especially Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian. Natchez and Oxford are gorgeous as well. Plus...tamales, and blues music almost make Jackson bearable.
7. Georgia: It's a beautiful state of rolling hills and forests and creeks, and red dirt country songs about banging chicks in the back of pickup trucks. Atlanta may be the worst major city this side of Newark. Augusta was beautiful, but it seemed to be completely bereft of nightlife. I've heard Athens salvages it though, but since I haven't seen it, I can't rank it based on that. From what I've seen, it's an annoying place filled with annoying people and I hate having to change planes in the Delta terminal.
8. Missouri: you're like Arkansas plus St. Louis, which I'm not sure is a good thing or not. However, you did give the world Kansas City BBQ, which balances out the fact that you also gave us Bud Lite.
9. Kentucky: it's like Tennessee without Nashville and Graceland. They do have the Corvette museum, and the burbon trail, however. Since I haven't seen the state's principal cities of Lexington and Louisville, this ranking really is pretty meaningless, so don't take it to heart.
10. Arkansas: this state is just awful. While I have heard rumors of the NW portion being some new cultural center, I sure as hell didn't see it. Little Rock is kinda ok. Hot Springs area in the mountains is cool, but most of the state is kinda a dump.
NR. South Carolina: I have only set foot in this state once, by crossing the river from Augusta for about 20 minutes, so I don't think it's fair to rank it.

1 and 10 are not as far off as you think, when talking about the majority of the state at least

They're really not. South Louisiana is nothing like any of Arkansas. North Louisiana is really similar, which is why North Louisiana sucks majorly at everything but producing great QB's.

Made a trip down there not to long ago and saw many similarities. Not going to argue New Orleans though, that is totally different than anything in Arkansas.

1. Texas - hard to argue with this
2. Tennessee - beautiful place
3. Georgia - ATL is the most overrated big city in the world, but they have commerce
4. South Carolina - at their interstates (fwiw, Charleston and Columbia are very similar to BR and Nola except they're not
5. Florida - take the good (Orlando, Tampa, Miami, the new Jacksonville ) with the bad (St. Pete, Tallahassee, Gainesville)
6. Kentucky - going the way of Tobacco
7. Arkansas - I hear Little Rock is a nice place to live, and the city happens to be positioned well considering its distance from Dallas and OKC
8. Missouri - what a lame state...like St. Louis might be lamer than Cleveland, Ohio
9. Louisiana - say what you want, but we have more lagniappe than anyone else on this list. Other than that, our renters rates are overly inflated, we're dumb as frick (but so is everyone else in the south), but...we're happy!
10. Alabama - outside of Mobile, does Bama have a heartbeat??? Birmingham? Huntsville has the greatest economy, but they're all transplants...like a mini Atlanta
11. Mississippi - Gulf coast area is legit. If you don't think so, you need to visit. They're booming down here.

I see you've haven't been to St. Pete in a while. That place has changed a ton and is really nice.

This thread is stupid though because there are places in every state that I could love or learn to love.

1. Texas - Great cities, my only knock is that the state is too big. They need high speed rail, like yesterday. I could live in Austin. Great Tex-mex

2. Georgia - I like cities so I like Atlanta. I also like that Atlanta is a melting pot of Southerners from various Southern states. Savannah reminds me of home, so I like it there too.

3. South Carolina - I'm from the suburbs of Charleston. I hated it growing up but after living in other places (currently Connecticut) I've realized it's really a great place. SC isn't really that bad.

4. Florida - I'm probably the only person in this thread that likes Miami. Just South Florida, I can't do the rest of the state.

Everywhere else, meh.

I grew up accustomed to being able to get to the water in 30 minutes or less so I hope I never have to live in a landlocked state (Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas).

Arkansas
Florida
Texas
Tennessee
Georgia
Missouri
Not much separating the rest.

Have lived in Ar, fl, penn, Texas and japan. Been in all 50 states. Picked Arkansas and Florida as I am retired and that is where I have houses. All a matter of personal choice.

we have these things called lakes, rivers and even swimming pools and showers and bathtubs for getting wet.

i have no desire to move- i love it here but i'm a homer.

i really don't think i'd want to live in any of the sec states, if i moved, i'd move north or west. that said, i enjoy a visit but i'm ready to come home after 3 or 4 days. nola is my favorite city of the sec states, heading there in april.

Everyone has different opinions I spent about 15 years in Nashville and it has a lot of diverse stuff and less than a days drive to a lot of other things. Probably my favorite US city I have lived in and I was an army brat. The worst thing is the traffic because 40, 24, and 65 all meet downtown.

I would much rather go chill on a lake in Arkansas than go to the beach

This take you a pin and draw from NE Ark to SW Ark and you will have two totally different regions, both people wise and most important terrain wise. THe NW half of Arkansas is truly Gods county and the SW half is a nasty shithole like MS and LA. Nasty water and nasty land. NW ARk #1 Sw half of ARk last.

#1 New Orleans
#2 Nashville
#3 Florida
#4 Georgia

#5-#11; definitely depends on the city but basically they are all meh.

Kinky

We have all those things too and miles and miles of sandy beaches.

Oh and no freaking snow.
