50 Touchdowns is absolutely INSANE

2008 Tebow 64.4% 2746 yards 30 touchdowns 4 interceptions 172.4 rating 673 rushing yards 12 rushing touchdowns

Again, getting it done through the air and on the ground

SEPARATION

3)

2012 McCarron 67.2% 2933 yards 30 touchdowns 3 interceptions 175.3 rating

4)

1996 Wuerffel 57.5% 3625 yards 39 touchdowns 13 interceptions 170.6 rating

I gave AJ the nod, for the higher passer rating and lower number of picks, plus I'm sure some degree of homerism.

BIG SEPARATION

5)-11) Take your pick

HUGE SEPARATION

1992 Barker 54.3% 1614 yards 7 touchdowns 9 interceptions 112.2 rating

Barker was pretty bad in '92 but, with the exception of his performance in '94, Stallings's teams weren't known for their QB play.

Aside from Barker, the other QBs Stallings recruited to Alabama that went on to play the position in a game were Brian Burgdorf and Freddie Kitchens.

Jay Barker's stat line in that game is hilarious.

Tebow had 56 his sophomore year before winning the title.

McCarron over Wuerffel?

LOL.

It's definitely debatable. Looking at the numbers, they tell me McCarron was a more efficient QB in 2012, but Wuerffel threw the ball a lot more in 1996.

Look at Wuerffel's numbers in 1995, 1994, and 1993.

We aren't talking about those years. We are specifically comparing championship years only.

Wuerffel's stats don't include the national title game over FSU. Those are only regular season + SEC championship game.

In the title game DW went 18-34 for 306 yards and 3 TD's. So he finished at 3931 yards for 303/game and 42 passing TD's.

Also worth noting, that was a 13 game season. If we hold those averages for 14 it would have been 4234 yards and 45 TD's passing.

Wuerffel won the Heisman his NC year tho. AJ didn't.

Wuerffel also didn't have as good of a run game. On the flip side, defenses still hadn't figured out how to stop Spurrier's offense in 96.

That's right, the NCAA didn't start counting bowl game stats until 2000 I think.

I think Wuerffel won every major and SEC award he was eligible for actually.

Heisman (overall)
Maxwell (overall)
Camp (overall)
O'Brien (qb)
Unitas (senior qb)
SEC mvp
SEC title game mvp

GOAT Gator QB

I like Tebow A LOT, but he wasn't ever the passer Wuerffel was.

I would probably give the nod to Wuerffel over McCarron because the Gator offense was all predicated off of him, while McCarron was more able to take advantage of defenses that were keying against the run. Still, it's not as cut-and-dry as one might at first think.

Rank by performance in their championship season ONLY.

2012 - AJ McCarron, Alabama
2003 - Matt Mauk, LSU
1998 - Tee Martin, Tennessee
2011 - AJ McCarron, Alabama
2015 - Jake Coker, Alabama
2006 - Chris Leak, Florida
2007 - Matt Flynn, LSU
2009 - Greg McElroy, Alabama
1992 - Jay Barker, Alabama

This is going entirely off my really, really crappy memory and not looking up any stats or anything else from those years.

Really says something about the 92 championship defense for them to win by 21 and have such dismal play from the QB.
