Just heard Jimbo is "done deal". Supposedly told the players this was the case last night.

I think Herman and Smart are both good choices. Smart seems the easy choice considering he's an alum, has relationships with tons of Georgia high school coaches, and has been tied to this job forever.

Herman would be great in the long term but our class would most likely fall apart due to a likely staff overhaul. But there are no holes to poke in that dude's resume and would be a great hire.

I'm good with either.

this, but I would prefer Kirby, Pruitt would not go to Bama

If Kirby is the hire then Pruitt fills Bamas DC void so I think you can flush the Kirby/Pruitt combo. Best you could hope for with Kirby is a Muschamp hire and cross your fingers on offense.

Tucker is already in place at Bama to fill in for Smart. Pruitt is not going to make yet another lateral move when he already has everything he needs/wants at UGA. Only way Pruitt leaves is if we make him leave or if a HC position comes along.

I get that that's intriguing because it's NEW for us, but it might not necessarily work. I mean, bama runs the same offense we do essentially and they haven't hurt for wins. We ran pro style offsenses with mason, murray, stafford, shock, and greene at QB and our offenses were pretty good.

With Herman, we could turn into meyer-era UF or we could turn into 2014-2015 auburn. Who knows. At least with kirby a lot of the unknowns are diminished.

Agree with all that but if you look at the future of football both in college an the pros there is a trend towards athletic QB's because it adds another dimension to the offense that separates the very best offenses from the traditional pro-style offenses. And yes, there are still mostly traditional offenses like the Patriots with Brady at QB but there are 2 problems with this model in the college game:
1. It takes years to develop a Tom Brady; time you don't have in college with continuous turnover of rosters.
2. Few college teams will ever have a New England Patriot level OL that allows the QB to have plenty of time to survey the field again because of the time it takes to develop OL continuity.

I think Kirby brings Boom over with him and Cochran that would leave Pruitt on the plains in the Gus bus...

Kirby Owes Boom for his job now.

speaking of college qb continuity. david shaw at stanford tells his qb recruits that it'll take em two years to be ready to play there. the thing about herman's offense is that a qb can learn on the go and still run the offense. he has someone who was a rb last year at qb and he still slings the football around.

herman has also said he prefers guys who can pass over guys who have to learn how. you don't have to have a running qb in that offense.
