State fans, I want serious answers here. I'm not trying to start a pissing match.

Y'all love Dan Mullen, and rightfully so. But my theory is that y'all love Mullen because he talks shite about and beats Ole Miss, and that's about it. I say that because, outside of Ole Miss, his record in the SEC is 5-9 (with ZERO wins against any SEC West schools outside of Ole Miss) and his recruiting hasn't been any better than Nutt's and, until this season, wasn't that much better than Croom's.

So the question comes in here: would y'all still love Dan Mullen as much had he not won the Egg Bowl (this last one or both)? On the converse of that, I posit that Ole Miss fans would still be pretty fricking pissed at our coaching staff even had they won both Egg Bowls.

Because, back in the day, just about everyone was an Ole Miss fan (regardless of their personal school affiliation)

Um yes in two years we haven't beat the other SEC west teams but OM's. But AL, AUB, ARK, LSU have basically been around the top 10 nationally or better at some point or another during these two years. It's night and day difference with Mullen being here. Fans see the effort the passion he has about not settling for mediocrity or moral victories. He is hungry for more.

It's very plausible.

Mullen brought in the 22nd ranked class in 2009 and has gone 5-1 vs. the SEC East, 6-2 vs. OOC opponents, is 8-4 in the 2nd year of rebuilding, and 13-11 overall. yeah, your post makes sense.

they gotta find negativity somewhere. That's why their on Miami & Colorado message boards promoting Mullen, trying to get him away from here.

Come on Rebs, are you going to use this "Dan Mullen hasn't beat anybody in the West other than Ole Miss" argument to justify yourself?

Like the LSU poster said, most Ole Miss fans are the older generation. Most State fans are under 40 because a LARGE majority of Mississippians graduated from state as compared to Ole Miss. Plus a lot of Ole Miss alums/fans live outside of the south.

5-1 vs. the SEC East

The East was horrible this year and he dodged the best team. Last year you played Kentucky, UF, and Vandy.

So that's two wins over Kentucky, a win over Vandy, and wins over 7-5 Florida and 6-6 Georgia. It's better than us sure, but that certainly doesn't blow me away.

Wins over MTSU, Memphis (who is one of the worst teams in FBS this year), Alcorn State, Houston (with a 3rd string QB), UAB, and Jackson State. Wow. Impressive.

This should have been the crux of your argument. He's done a great job in Starkville this year.

Yeah lucky you got to play in the East. State would have probably be in ATL this weekend if were in the East.

I'm a Rebel, just backing USC this weekend.

Yeah though, you might have. State never impressed me this year, but just kept on winning. It means you're doing something right.

It is not a large majority. That's not being truthful.

I agree. We've been nothing flashy. Hard nosed D, tough to run on, struggle some giving up the big play. Smash mouth running game, with a pass every blue moon to keep you honest, with the exception FLA. They knew it was coming and still couldn't stop it.
