UA doesn't need the money and support from central and south Arkansas any more. They feel like there's enough in NWA now.
They do, however, want recruits from those areas, but look for those recruits to start drifting away also.

Why would an 18 year old care? If they've grown up hog fans, it won't matter where the games are played.

I'm in Little Rock and I wouldn't mind one game a year, but I understand if they want to move all games to The Hill.
The city has a couple years to come up with a plan to offset the costs to the university...At least that sounds like it is in the works.

Agree totally. Though I'd like to just rip the band-aid off and move them all to Fayetteville, our fan base is among the slowest to evolve and would shart itself. I don't have that much of a problem keeping one cupcake OOC game there, but you're right -- LR's case for keeping games erodes every day.

That's why it is kind of ironic that some feel such a passion for WMS. For a school with the size and status of Arkansas, WMS is a dump. Why put your worst foot forward at all when they have the facilities they do?
I'm sure there are some of the older folks that still have memories of outhouses but are tinkled pink that those memories are just that.

Honestly, it's a vocal minority who like to hear themselves talk.
It's not really that divided -- disconnected people just act like it is in order to gin up controversy and manufacture discord that isn't there.
Given that Little Rock has really crapped the bed the last few years (0-4, drew less than 48,000 to both games this year), it seems as if fewer and fewer people are as upset about this as they once were.

Plus, as a city in general, Little Rock is a freaking dumpster fire, especially compared to Fayetteville. War Memorial is in a bad part of town, and crime in general in Little Rock has been bad forever now. Meanwhile, we have fantastic college town, awesome stadium, beautiful campus, and crazy good bar district sitting 2.5 hours right up the road.

For me it's several factors.
I'm an alumni, so my nostalgia lies with walking around campus with my wife (also an alum) and not with attending games in a decrepit stadium in a crap part of a bad town.
Fayetteville > Little Rock
Dickson St. (F-ville) > River Market (Little Rock)
Campus > golf course on Markham
Razorback Stadium > War Memorial
F-ville revenues > War Memorial revenues
Razorback Stadium capacity > War Memorial capacity
NWA money > Central Arkansas money
I'ts really that simple.

I grew up 30 minutes from the Arkansas campus, been lucky to go to great basketball and baseball games. Seems most of the big football games I go to we ended up losing.
I've gone to track meets and chili pepper runs, a few soccer and volleyball games blah blah blah. I never would've gone to any of those had I not lived so close or been a student.
However, I think we need to keep at least one football game in LR annually and not give them cupcakes, but a rotation of decent games and OOC foes. They'll get Georgia next year and they'll bitch that it wasn't LSU or Bama. Year after that they'll get Texas Tech or Nicholls St. and go ballistic.

The Heights? Not exactly "across the street" but up a ways. I lived down near the stadium on Polk St. during grad school and my girlfriend (now wife) lived over by Kroger in the good section. There is a TON of crime that is either kept on the DL or not widely known about, though awareness has risen since Anne Pressly got killed.
Take a stroll down Fair Park (south of 630) after sundown and tell me that's not a bad part of town.

Not hating as much as telling the truth. I'd say I come from a position of experience given that I'm from East Arkansas and grew up going to LR games, am an alum of UA, and lived in LR during and after grad school.
It's not the wasteland that some people make it out to be, but it really is becoming a crime-infested shythole.

I envy our fellow SEC schools that have enough confidence in the value of their institution that they don't make completely illogical decisions that cost the program millions of dollars and put them at a recruiting disadvantage in the hardest conference in the NCAA.

yeah, there are BnE's, and the occasional mugging, but ive lived in the area for 10 years and never really felt weird about it. most of the real crime is downtown and across the interstate, and moving into WLR.
to use crime-riddled LR as an excuse not to play the games is pretty weak, compared to all the other good reasons.

That part of Hillcrest is hardly something I'd point to as an example of a high value property area. That's like saying that apartments in Harlem area exclusive because it's in Manhattan.
