What is yalls opinion on Saban's "No Buyout" clause in his contract? I'd love to see the meltdown in gumptown if he leaves. Especially if he ends up back at LSU.

He's going to retire at Bama.

This has been discussed to death here and nobodies mind is ever changed but my opinion is that a buyout would not keep him from leaving if he wanted to and if a school really wanted him.

I agree, the only thing is why would he request the no buyout clause if he really plans on retiring at Alabama?

He's never had a buyout clause, non issue.

Because you never know what might pop up or how things can change.

ETA my mistake.

However,

Why would he want a extension if he wasn't?

Again, why would you want a coach that wants to coach at another school. Buyouts are for schools that don't have any money to buy a good coach.

Tuberville is a great example. The buy out kept him there when many wanted him out and kept him there when he wanted out.

Saban is the one that wanted the extention, why would he do that if he was planning on leaving? Plus he's not the youngest coach in the world anymore....

The cost of another school hiring him would be as much as any buyout.

He's 57 years old, the odds of him leaving go down significantly every season. I don't expect him to be at Alabama for fifteen years or so, but I do believe he'll be in Tuscaloosa beyond 2011.

There's no substitute for age and wisdom. Saban's taken three years of his life to build a championship team at Alabama - a team with the talent to realistically compete for a National championship every year. He's 57 years old. Are you really suggesting he would leave, and make the same mistake he made going to Miami again?

I agree but if we win a NC all bets are off IMO.

- You are sad and pathetic. You should find something else to hope for, seriously.

You boys can believe this or not but Saban is not going anywhere without Terry and she is happier than a Mt. Cody in an ice cream store. She is very happy and expects to be here for a long time (horses mouth).

I think his current contract is structured in such a way as to be better than a buyout. The fact that he gets SIGNIFICANT bonuses the longer he stays seems to be a more effective mean of keeping him put. Like others have said if a school wants him bad enough they will pay his buyout, but are they willing to pay him DIRECTLY all the money he would give up in potential bonuses?
