Question for the Auburn fans...

No trolling at all. Just curious. API became Auburn in 1960. So, when Auburn won the 1957 national title, do the trophies, awards, publications/historical items display Alabama Polytechnic Institute?

I've never seen anything with the API name on it and just curious because history like that is a fascinating thing.

Good question. I've got a practice ball that Vince Dooley (then asst. coach) gave me in 1958 and it's got "API" stamped in large letters on it.

My father was an Auburn graduate and I often heard it called API. Auburn is actually just the name of the town where the school is located. I wander what its name would be today if they'd decided to build it next door in Opelika, Ala.

just picking....it's a good school

The school was officially API but was more commonly referred to as Auburn. Sports teams were always the Auburn Tigers. You can find memorabilia that says API National Champs but it's not common and most says Auburn

Seriously, why do Auburn folks have such an aversion to references made about their former name...seems like y'all want to run from the association.

Nothing to run from. You asked a question and people are answering your question. Why is that difficult for you to understand?

I think there are more bama fans that try to use it in a derogatory sense rather than Auburn fans that have an aversion to the name.

They sell API shirts in all the bookstores..

This. Although I will admit you have explained your use of it in the past.
