Link?

Link to LF demanding #7? He had already decided where he was going and leaking #7 was just him tipping his hand.

Point being, yet again, is that #7 is not like #18. 7 is a glamour number and like the yankees giving a top prospect a single digit, is fair game to major recruits.

Les would have to over rule all the 18s that wore the jersey because they are the commitee who choose who gets the jersey; that would be a monumental mess. Having said that, I don't think in the history of LSU that the coaches and fans have ever wanted a recruit as badly as we wanted Fournette. So.....

I guarantee you if Leonard Fournette said I'll sign on the condition of wearing #18 my freshman year then he'd get that number

Nope, LSU is much bigger than LF, and LF knows this.

18 is sacred. One earns 18, and teamvote was accurate in this instance...

So you're saying he was a silent commit? Seems like speculation. Maybe Fournette should start worrying about that YPC instead of what number he's wearing

The jersey itself is reserved for a senior, so nobody but a senior can get it.

Bennie Logan was the only non "football" senior to get the #18 since it really started. He was a redshirt junior though, so by academic class, a senior.

Auburn has a few traditions. I guess I am not familiar with the traditons of the corndog nation.

He announced his jersey number before he chose a school

If he was demanding only through twitter and not even consulting the coaches then that's worse than previously discussed. Very diva of him

Never gave this much thought, but maybe LF wanted 7 in honor of Mathieu, who attended the same high school in NOLA.

Or maybe he's an LSU historian and a big fan of Rondell Mealy or Bert Jones?

I think JFF ought to give the Aggie lecture to our recruits on how not to demand things from a school? Like, how not to demand actually attending school would be a great start. Love those Aggie lectures.

Even if he asked for it after he committed as you say it still reflects poorly, maybe even more so. Not a good way to gain favor with your teammates requesting preferential treatment before you even enroll

Probably the first time they've ever had to deal with a player saying they wanted a particular number

Has to be less difficult than having Your coach explain to your players that your QB tells you what he will and won't do.

If true, how would you feel as one of the other commits in the class? Why is Fournette better than all of them and deserve special treatment?

i don't know, that's why they pay Les 5 and a half million a year or whatever. To make those decisions. He wins 80% of the time so it's obviously working.

Because JFF gave him a call and said " yo, me and Drake were talking, and we think i need to teach you how to demand and get whatever you want. You have entirely too much character and have handled everything with class. Lemme school ya on special treatment.
