In that case, Spurrier. He was consistently good, but only won a single national championship. Meyer won two in half the time, but was a flash in the pan. Spurrier left the program with all the tools to succeed, but Meyer left it a burning wreck. I have no doubt that Spurrier would have won more national championships if he had stayed with us for the BCS era. He might not have had the rapid success of Meyer, but he'd have gotten them, and we'd never sink to the same lows as we did.

It's really not that complicated to see why he lumped them together and it makes complete sense. Spurrier coached Florida for 12 years while Zook/Meyer/Muschamp combined to coach 13 years. It's essentially the same time frame and he's asking would you rather be consistently good for 12 years with 1 NC or have dramatic highs and lows over 13 years with 2 NC's.

Obviously the answer people give is going to be heavily colored by how old the gator fan answering happens to be. Over 35 and I think the answer will be the OBC.
FWIW Florida really should have had a third NCG shot back in 2001. LSU did get hot later in the year but it was Florida tripping on their own dick that lost them the East - and they really handled LSU that year so you'd think they would be favored in the SEC CG.

I would completely agree. As an outsider, I would rather go with Spurrier and his time due to consistency but I can see where the poster above that doesn't even remember Spurrier would choose the more recent grouping. He has no connection to the past and doesn't know what it was like back then.
