I know you didn't ask, but Arkansas fired Nolan Richardson 8 years after his national championship and you see how that worked out for us. Even though I loved Nolan, I wanted him fired sooner, because it was obvious that he no longer had the same drive after '94, but in hindsight, I was wrong.

I disagree with the Saban scenario. This is hypothetical and not my prediction. If he went 10-3, 9-4, 8-5, and 9-4 in the next four years, everyone including Bama fans would be saying the game has passed him by and he needs to go. He can no longer win the big games. I doubt Bama would be as lenient as Penn ST and FSU.

As I said, I sincerely doubt this happens, but in this case, he would be forced out "with honor" assuming he wanted to continue.

People don't remember this but Stallings won 70 games in 7 years and when he was "forced" out, and he was, there was no sadness at his "retirement". Yes we were winning 10 games a year but it just wasn't where we needed to be. It seemed ok to him but 10 wins doesnt put you in any scenario to win the National title and I think he thought his 92 title bought him a lifetime contract and it did not. We needed a change. He got very comfortable winning 10 games and we couldn't have that. Saban now, has earned the right to stay as long as he likes. There is not a single scenario that would force Saban out short of a sex scandal or violations. Saban also will not sit on his laurels; ala Gene Stallings.

To answer your real question Les would not still be the coach at Bama.

Just like your post yesterday about the athletic facilties at Alabama - you don't know what the hell you are talking about. WTF do you get shite like this?

It's rare that a coach in tenure that long at a school doesn't inevitably hit a plateau (as we said, Tubby did with UK). That all said, it's all about having your Plan B to replace him. You better make damn sure that he's ready to fill those shoes and your fans are willing to be patient with that change.

He should be on the hot seat for the fact that he has been a horrible post season coach. 2nd year in a row his pitching decisions have directly led to us being eliminated. Last year with the horrible decisions vs Houston and this year. He shouldn't be fired, but if it happens again next year, the heat should be turned way up.

So Rich Brooks was a bad hire? We were on probation.

Rich Brooks was less of a hire and more of a last minute "I need somebody". If you remember, Mitch spent all of his time on Bill Parcells, while other qualified candidates took other jobs.

Brooks had an overall losing record everywhere he had been. Were we in bad shape, and did he finally get us pointed forward before retiring, we certainly improved, but he was hardly a quality hire when it was made.

It's pretty well known that Mitch didn't want to hire Cal but the athletic board went over his head and hired him. It's why there is an AD for basketball separate from Mitch.

Debating MB and his hiring choices is a moot point.

Most every hire he has made were connections to former jobs / employers

Brooks came from MB's Oregon ties
Mitchell came from MB's Tennessee ties
Stoops came to MB, not the other way around
Henderson came from Cohen because MB did not build new stadium promised Cohen
Billy Clyde had a MB tie, just can't think now
Cal was who some donors wanted instead of BCG, they got their wish after BCG imploded

Bama football and UK Basketball are the worse fans in the world.

I can handle a Bama football and Basketball fan, but the guys that then switch depending on the sport suck big time.

Who would your Saban or Cal level coach be? I just don't see a sure bet replacement out there for college baseball.

You are misremembering quite a bit. Stallings wasn't forced out. He resigned because the AD was a dick. You also seem to forget that Stallings was dealing with the first signs and symptoms of probation from the Antonio Langham thing in the latter portion of his years at Alabama.

You do realize there are lots of families Alabama and Kentucky mixes so the kids grow up watching both schools.

UK cut Tubby Smith loose. He won a Natty right after Pitino left. He lasted ten yrs until they parted ways.

You are talkin' out you arse. He wasn't forced out for his record. He finally had enough of the incessant harping of REC members. Frankly he was too good a man to be associated with Alabama trash.

The public line

Pretty sure there was an angle not in the public discussion that explains very well why the ways were parted.
