How is trying to mirror bama working out for LSU or arkie? Gus and Co. missed on a QB. How often does that happen in the NFL and they have a lot better metrics, assessments, etc...to work with than a college coach. Not having a decent back up is a product of the recruiting nature. The QB's don't go where they can't play or think they can't play. That is why you had to go get Coker last year or at least thought you needed Coker. If Gus' misses on the next 2 or 3 QB's with similar results to this season then he should be and will be held accountable. However, I think based on the injuries, the issue at QB and the fact that the team has played hard and had a chance to win all but one game this season you can give him a pass. He won't get another one, but he also might find a QB before next year as well. I personally don't expect our O to move the ball at all against bama. His seat will be hot if it gets ugly. It has the potential to get ugly. I still believe if he finds a decent QB and most of this discussion will be a nonsensical. QB play is the reason we lost every game save 1 or 2 this year. Splitting hairs you could blame it on Gus' lack of trust in his QB or the inability of the QB to show enough in practice to earn trust but it is about the QB.

Who says Auburn should mirror Alabama? However, how is whatever Auburn is doing working out for you?

For those blaming the QB, exactly whose job is it to develop at least a functioning QB? Didn't Gus fawn all over Johnson in the off-season? Gus alone is to blame.

In fairness to the QB the drops this season have been overwhelming. They are the direct reason we lost the arkie game. They also cost us 14 points against Ole Miss. Missing wide open targets on good play calls have killed 10 drives this season in 4 games. All of those games were lost by less than a single score.

I am ok with where Auburn is at...I don't have a naive belief that we will play for a National Title every year. I prefer 2010, 2013 to what we experienced 2000-2008. It is ok that we have a dependency on a prolific QB. Every NFL team does as well. If we miss on them we will struggle. To the credit of the staff the team has fought through it all season long.

I am not satisfied at being 6-6 but I can handle every year not being a championship.

the drops is where your problems started. From Duke not on the team to the #1 wr having costly drops...

The play calling has been pretty suspect, but that was not the main problem this year. Duke not giving a damn, and getting kicked off the team was the start. Couple that with Carl Lawson getting injured, JJ shitting the bed, and SW getting hurt and here were are. If we could of had Carl Lawson and White both healthy at the same time the season could of been better.

Play calling has been shitty to ridiculous way too much this year. Stupid player substitutions and breaking away from what was working during the game is all on Gus. The man is stubborn as hell and appears to be totally unwilling to adjust his scheme to his players ability.

Why put Sean White in the game when he was gimpy and it was obvious he wasn't able to execute? Why not feed the damn ball to Jovon Robinson till the opponent stops him?

The offense Gus runs needs a run threat at qb and he hasn't had that this season. His offense is built around misdirection and forcing the defense to be disciplined. It's a lot easier to stay disciplined when that QB run threat is missing.

Sean White is a hell of a passer but he just seems like a bad fit in that system. He's not fast enough to run the read options that Gus likes to use for misdirection.

Yep. Some weird shite happened this year that would've frustrated our big ambitions regardless (JJ sucking, SW injury, Duke dismissal, Lawson injury, etc.), but Gus quite simply did not put us in the best position to win several very winnable games.

While I think it's accurate to say reliable QB play would have us with 2-3 more wins on the year at least, it's also accurate to say that the lack of a solid QB situation exposed some serious issues with Gus and decision making. It's sort of an aberration, so maybe it's not a systemic issue. But it certainly feels like one right now.

Gus has a mess on his hands. This is an unforgivable conference. Fans don't have enough patience to sit back quietly and let a guy with little to no HC experience learn on the job.

I hope so. I don't really see what he brings to the offense. At best, he's a poor man's Gus Malzahn. He's not a great recruiter and he doesn't bring any new "blood" to the offense.
