His name was thrown around for the Auburn DC position. He's a great X and O guy, most weren't sure about his recruiting abilities. Muschamp was far and away the fan favorite. I would have been fine with Clark, but the vast majority of Auburn fans would not have been. I think he' be a good get for Mississippi State.

Awesome coach and really glad Auburn didn't hire him.
This. I love the guy. Always has a tough, nasty defense.

A winner wherever he has been and an exceptional defensive coach.

if your insight to bill clark is as spot on as your repeated comments about auburn's chances to hire WM then i'm glad auburn didn't hire him either.

Glad we got Muschamp but I certainly don't want Clark at Miss State either. With his instate connections he should be able to get some players from here and the sentiment that kept coming up on our board was that he "gets the most out of his players."

I don't know if he is that well liked. When he was a high school coach at Prattville, Auburn fans often accused him of going out of his way to steer any and all college prospects on his team to Alabama

Too bad playing ball with Bama didn't save his program. We're dicks like that

I am glad that AU hired Muschamp instead of Clark. If given the choice, I would prefer UA hire Clark instead of Muschamp.

This could be the first time bama and auburn fans have agreed so much on this board.

He would be an extremely risky hire. He's never coached on the SEC level. Of course you're going to get favorable opinions from people that live in the state of Alabama because a lot of them know him. No matter what they say though, there's no way of knowing if he can really coach at this level until he does it. You can say he's a really good X and O's guy but at this level everybody is really good at X & O's.

I would not have been happy if we hired him. Way too much unknown.

Don't get me wrong though. Risky hires can pay off. Malzahn had less experience when he took the Arkansas OC job.

Known to be esp good against spread teams. Very disciplined no nonsense coach. Had players running like military unit before practices.

His '08 Prattville team may have been one of the best high school teams I've ever seen and their defense was vicious. Obviously that was high school, but seeing them in person win 3-straight state titles was cool. Clack is a good guy and very intense. He'll be a good coach.

Your D will be well disciplined and you won't shake your heads at the fundamentals. It'd be a great hire, although it won't excite the fanbase like a Muschamp type.

Lulz, an unproven vs a proven. Clark will be solid IMO, but he's definitely the riskier hire compared to Muschamp.

Dumb post is dumb.

Ah, so your main concern is beating Auburn. :littlebrother:

It may be riskier, but I'd take that risk. If Smart were to leave after this season, I would want Clark to be our #1 option.

It's like saying you want the 2* with no SEC offers opposed to a top 10 recruit. Just baffling really.
