I don't see a problem with it. Their traditions may seem ritualistic and unchangeable to outsiders, but they're just one of the ways that a culture is maintained in their group which is no different from any other school, business, religious or civic group, or any other community.
Do you think it's just about the traditions, Kentucker, or do you think it also has a bit to do with the attitudes about the traditions.
I mean, everyone is usually proud of their own traditions, or if not straight out proud, enjoys those traditions (Stanford band, Stanford tree).
You don't think there is a different vibe to the way the Aggies treat their traditions?

You should be proud of your traditions--I'd assume most grads are.
And we're proud of ours.
What's the big deal?
I don't see us forcing 'em on anyone--who started this thread?

What a weird reason to be posting on the SECrant. I think you post here because of a&m and that's just sad to be honest

We don't have anything against the word alumni, just choose to use former student. What a weird thing to give a shite about.
I was legitimately curious, figured it was a fair enough question.

Jealously? I don't think that's it at all. Resentment towards nonconformity is more like it. The obvious irony is that so many liberal schools assail the Aggie way. I would think that liberals would embrace nonconformity.
Are some SEC schools' fans the first to nag Aggies about their traditions? Hardly. It seems to have always been popular to vilify them, no matter the conference.

Yea because most other SEC schools are bastions of liberal idealism

Yep. I need to get with the program and finance my Sr. Boots and Balfour 14K with the quickness.
How could I not see this has held me back all these years??

I agree that posting here because of A&M is somewhat sad.

In other words, are the SEC folks (or factions of SEC folks) the first group to be jealous of A&M?
Longwhorn fans have been jealous of us since time began. They literally have no traditions that weren't copied from their Daddy A&M.

And yet here you are. Posting about a school that doesn't even consider your school to be a rival. Sad. You should just go back to the shag

Context, friend, context. My next sentence, "Are some SEC schools' fans the first to nag Aggies about their traditions?" helps shape the meaning of my post, too.
Also, by Aggie standards other SEC schools can be defined as more liberal. The same applies to Auburn, also a very conservative university.

No, I do think that is the honest question. At least some folks on this board post about the weirdness of A&M traditions. It seems like it shouldn't be any different than any other school, so it shouldn't be an issue.
If it is, why?
I don't have an answer. This thread made me wonder why.
To me, the stuff that is weird is the "whoop" stuff you hear at weddings, and gatherings where aggies are at. But that isn't really a game day thing to be worried about. Nor is alumni v. former students.
