No, that was started much early by the football team's land shark defense monicker. Which is why it ultimately didn't get selected as it was associated with football and not the other sports.

It was in the works to just be The Ole Miss Bears. We had plans to build a nice habitat area and keep a live Black bear and Polar bear on display like LSU to avoid racism. After further debate, we realized we would have to keep them in separate quarters and would have been accused of segregation.
