He has developed the art of stimulating antagonism to Jerry Springer levels.

Finebaum is a major douche that pulls shite out his arse to get viewers. He reminds me of the kid that was shoved in to lockers and given wedgies in high school.

They didn't mess with Paul. He'd interview everyone involved and publish it in the school newspaper.

He was a pretty good writer for the now defunct Birmingham Post

He used the same lame shtick in his newspaper days as he does now.

He's the rednecks' Howard Cosell, for those of you who remember back that far.

I remember Howard well. He could be so antagonistic that people were compelled to watch...kinda like Vern...after 10 cups of coffee.

I actually like Pawl the commentator and interviewer. I just cannot take the callers. I cannot fathom these people who get so freaking angry and upset over football. From what I remember he made his career in the mid 80s going after Ray Perkins while writing a column for the B'ham News (I think it was the news). He would HOUND Perkins and Perkins got him canned and then had him arrested when he went on the sideline during a game. All that did was make him bigger

That's CLASSIC!

On the topic of 'HOUND'... Last year, the Uga and Smokey sideline moments with Paul were entertaining. Uga licked Paul's face but Paul kinda ignored Smokey. Smokey didn't like this and at a later game, he shunned Paul and wouldn't have anything to do with him. Trying to save face, Paul sends Smokey some 'Finebaum face' doggie treats.

His show is pretty entertaining if you don't take it too seriously. I feel the same way about First Take. We're talking about a bunch of meat heads running around and playing with a ball. It's ok to be a little silly

When he was on AM radio he had a sidekick named Vickers. That was some funny shite. They had a bag named Mildred call in about two times a week. Best radio ever.
Now, not so much.

The same way Jerry Springer made his. Get a bunch of people to come on your show and act like idiots, and all the other idiots out there will get fired up and listen to/watch the show religiously.

Give the devil his due. I've never cared for him very much. Met him a couple of times and he's kind of a squirt. I've been sucked into calling him before and had him hang up on me one time.

With that said, he was in college during Watergate as a journalism student. Set the wheels in motion as a sports writer for the college paper wanting Bill Battle canned. When he came to the Birmingham Post-Herald in the early 80's he was just a "reporter." He moved over to the sports dept in '83 coincidentally with Ray Perkins' first year as Alabama's new football coach.Couple that with Pat Dye's underachieving teams in 1984 and 1985 and he was off to the races. Finebaum basically would take turns poking Perkins and then Dye.At the time it was almost unheard of for a "local" writer to take-on/jab the prominent coaches. He would also slam the then All-American Bowl's selection causing a drop from advertisers in the P-H due to so many corporate head honchos saying, fine,we'll show you.

He then fell into a gold mine with Bill Curry and the rest his history.

Yep. There was a time when he actually had good, somewhat educated callers. And I think he's always been a good interviewer.

Show started going downhill when it switched to FM 10 or so years ago.

He's a carnival barker who feeds the beast what it wants to hear. It's not a mystery.
